BT forced to yahoo?
Mate has just gone to BT internet, and is being pushed to yahoo Mail He needs to get his Hotmail contacts list at the very least, or go back to the program as default. Is there any reason he can't see his old mail program...and how can we get over this?

Just point the browser to hotmail and log that's all I do, you don't need a mail program for it. I use my BT mail system as the main one and hotmail for non important sites. I also have a g-mail account and there's no reason why you cant run them side by side.

Hi GG.
I think it's just a case of the menue bar not being turned on. This would at least give us a place to put a quickstarting method for Hotmail. How do you kick-start your Hotmail sessions?
I'm on another pal's computer in a shed in the dead of night - had to break in to get on line, that's how bad the Pprune adiction is!
Mate number one was really pleased to get BT inter up and running, but his Dell laptop kept running very slowly. So slowly in fact, the CCleaner was doing one line at a time, so another proplem to solve tomorrow. It made finding his Hotmail v-difficult. There is some mention of a new providor messing with the speeds on a new install, but I can't quite see how that would affect a local issue. Could it be causal?

I am afraid your posts do not make it very clear what problem you have.
Hotmail is a web based e-mail service. You log on to Hotmail via an internet browser programme, enter your e-mail address and password and all your e-mails and contacts are there to see. You can use an e-mail client (e.g. Outlook) to view and write e-mails but it is basically a mirror image of what is seen on the web portal.
BT will have had nothing to do with any problem with Hotmail. If you are using Internet Explorer has your Menu Bar or Favourites Bar disappeared, if so it is just a question of selecting them again? The method depends on which version you are using. E.g. in IE9 just right click alongside one of the tabs and a menu will apear where you can select the missing items.
Regarding speed most (I think) ADSL connections are 'rate adaptive'. That means that a new connection will over a period of around two weeks try to maintain a connection at the highest sustainable rate. In practise this means the connection may be unreliable and drop frequently as the equipment attempts higher but unsustainable speeds. When it settles down it will be at a rate which is the best it can sustain with any accuracy.
Hope this helps.

gg,
I was almost about to say "what he said" to your post until I re-read it and saw that one liner.
Good practice would be not to use your ISP's email platform and use an independent one, as one day you will want to switch ISP and you'll probably find it tricky to transfer your emails (let alone making sure everyone knows about the change).
Even more the case when you use a lousy broadband ISP such as BT where the ISP switch will probably come sooner than later ! ...

When I ssay important sites Mixture I mean things like banking, at most there are about half a dozen which are easily informed of a change of address, but yes generally I agree with you but I prefer to keep sensitive data in the hands of a UK firm, in this case BT.
LR try 'maillive.com'

Back in shed in dead of night. Hard to cope with other people's stuff but have promised said pal I'd carry on with it when he has time.
I did a trial run on one of the many computers in this shed, and really didn't have trouble setting up Hotmail, so it's just a case of seeing what the issues are with his slow system and also getting his e addresses transferred to another mail program.
It's a separate issue, but I would assume some other factor with the sudden loss of performance since the speed tuning seems to be go faster until it stops, not just get bogged down. I guess this will come have to come first.
Thanks for the help, I'll come back when I'm more clear about the issues.
