I use my BT mail system as the main one and hotmail for non important sites.
I was almost about to say "what he said" to your post until I re-read it and saw that one liner.
Good practice would be not to use your ISP's email platform and use an independent one, as one day you will want to switch ISP and you'll probably find it tricky to transfer your emails (let alone making sure everyone knows about the change).
Even more the case when you use a lousy broadband ISP such as BT where the ISP switch will probably come sooner than later ! ...
