Help with iPod and iTunes Please

I have two questions and would be very grateful for some help please.
Firstly I have an 8g iPod (the old type) and for some reason neither my Desktop or Laptop see it when I plug it in so can’t sync it.

Secondly I have about 200 files in iTunes that I have written relevant text about under the heading “Name”…. Can I copy and paste this text to say a word document or something similar so as not to have to re-write it all again…?

I did try to copy and paste to a Word Document but after copying about 10 items a message appeared saying that this was the wrong program for the task but didn’t tell the right one…!

Any help much appreciated and many thanks in advance…

Ask a teenager!

If you don't have one of those (occasionally) useful domestic applicances, I will ask mine on your behalf.

Look at the "export library" or "export playlist" functions (under file menu on the mac).

Do you have other USB devices that DO work when you plug them in? (i.e. is the inoperability limited to the iPod?)

Also, do you see the iPod in Device Manager when you plug it in? (or something extra in the device manager?) and/or do you hear the rising pair of notes through the speakers (signifying an inserted USB device) when you plug in the iPod?

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply, yes all other USB devices work fine and the iPod was until just a few weeks ago. There is no sound when I connect it and it does not appear in the Device Manager. I guess it must be an issue with the iPod... Not sure if you can re-boot it...?

Daughter's ipod touch died. I followed the escalating ideas in that ipod web-site, and the complete re-set worked.
I would have been verbally slaughtered if it had affected the music stored on there, but I was lucky - the music survived.
