Windows update malicious software removal tool,

Had a reminder that there was a windows update to down load today one of those Windows update malicious software removal tools,

I downloaded it but I dont know where it downloaded to, maybe its automatic in its operation, anybody tell me if there's something I need to do with it once I have downloaded it.

Running MRT

Its simple when you know how. Just click Start, Run and in the open: box type MRT and press enter.

That's for XP if you are using Win 7 or Vista it may be a bit different.

Depends what version of Windows perhaps, but this sort of route should work for the last few:
Open control panel, open Windows updates, find the link to windows update history, et voila! you have the complete list.

As to what each does, well, that's another matter entirely!

Invoking MSRT from run by using "mrt" also works on Windows Vista and 7

Make sure you have real time anti virus software and a good firewall as well.

It's automatic. If it finds anything it'll tell you; if it doesn't find anything it'll just run invisibly and then stop.

You can also run it explicitly from the Microsoft web site if you really want to.
