Norton 360

Anybody using this product?
I have read nothing but bad reviews for it but...did not read the reviews until after I had installed it. It was a freebie from PC world with new laptop. So far it seems to be ok and is not a resource hog. Everywhere I read though the advice is to uninstall asap as it will only cause heartache later. Anybody here use this?

I don't, and I wouldn't, but I have friends who do.
It's designed as a one-security-solution-does-everything type of application, and is thus ideal for those who want the minimum possible to do with their computers security. And it's pretty good at doing that. Unfortunately, very occasionally it will detect something harmless, and maybe important, as malware, and quarantine it, often without warning the user. Result can be a borked OS. (This happened to a friend.Took a while to sort out.)
I have heard it is a bit of a resource hog, too.
If you don't know much about malware and don't mind something else taking almost total responsibility for that, it's ideal.
If you want to be more involved with what goes on under the bonnet, you can pick apps that will allow you to do that, and still be at least as well protected.

It's also well know for being difficult to completely remove. Norton do a separate utility available from their site to do the job, since "Add & Remove Programmes" won't.

For anyone wishing to uninstall a Norton product (inc 360):

You don't need to sign up for an account if you don't want to, or don't want to reinstall, or don't need to get the product key.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
