Virtual PC 2007
I *did* search the forum first, but it wouldn't allow the two letter "word" of "PC" - which on a forum for computers somewhat limits the search function, methinks.
Anyway - I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I've just read some blurb, and seen the promotional videos for "Microsoft Virtual PC 2007".
I do fancy the idea of running a copy of XP Pro at the same time - to solve some driver issues that I have. I think I would also be able to reduce my number of paid subscriptions to "Go To My PC" by removing an actual PC and making it one of the possible Virtual PC's.
Any of you folks have any experience of this software?

Yes. Nowhere near as good as VMware. It works ok for running Windoze as a virtual machine, but it's crap at running anything else. If you just want to run XP, I'm sure it'll be just fine.
You know what they say about Microsoft... the only time they give stuff away for free is if it's a) so crap that noone would pay for it, or b) part of a strategy to kill off a competitor with a superior offering.

....but you're all gurus.
I'm still a bit of a luddite when it comes to PC's. I need it to be point and click or plug and pray.
If it don't work - *I* can't fix it - so I tend to go proprietary and, when feasible, matching.
I have a laptop (two actually) that I would like to convert to Linux (to make a domestic telephone exchange) - but I've no idea how to do that.
I assume it won't take one OS whilst running it's current one, and if I delete it's current one first - it won't do bugger all. (Actually, that's exactly what I suppose it would do - "bugger all").
I have to do all my computing in the "camp for bears of little brain".

If one of those laptops is "expendable" in that you no longer need it, then its very easy.
Just get a linux disc (plenty available for free or just a token sum) put it in the disc drive and tell it, when prompted, to install. It will erase windows and install linux and the m/c will then work using linux as the OS instead. ( a slightly simplistic view)
