A friend has just opened an e-mail account with Hotmail and has been inundated with unwanted e-mail of a dubious nature. Being a gentle chap in his 60s, he'd rather do without it.. .. .Is there anyway that it can be blocked?. .. .Many thanks.

Maybe it's in the address, a simple address I think can do this, e.g. clive39@ as a simular thing happened to an address I set up for my wife, yet a clive_smith@ type address seems to be missed, having several of these as well. . .Also it maybe in the way the account has been set up, the preferences when setting up the account.. .There are filters (under options) that come with the hotmail accounts, which can help clear some of this. . .I supose this will be followed by the anti-hotmail users club, but I find this service has a very useful function.

ATG is quite right. (See my thread about a similar problem with AOL). Since I 're-signed' using a random screen (email) name - none, whereas with a 'simple' name - literally 100's. Tell your friend to abandon his dream of a user-friendly email address and make up an 'odd' one.

My advice would be to stay well away from Hotmail.. .. .I have a Yahoo account as well as a Hotmail one, and the Hotmail has tons and tons of junk mail, even with the junk filters turned on. Yahoo on the other hand, has hardly any.. .. .PS

MightyGem,. .. .All you need to get your friend to do is to check the box next to the email, then click on that button that says "block" and then click on "ok" and the job is done.

MightyGem,. .. .In that case, just got to "options" and set "junk mail filtering to "high". .. .you do need to initially specify which mails are actual junk mails, occasionally the odd one slips through and you'd need to clean out the "junk mail" mailbox every so often. It's emptied automatically every couple of weeks but it does fill up quite quickly.

Yeh I agree with Polar S. I gave away Hotmail the day I heard Gates got his grubbey bloodey mits on it. So its no surprise its turned to sh!t. I too use yahoo and another one in Oz (Start). Can vouch equaly for both.

My hotmail address is virtually random - an ICAO code followed by two numbers. Initially I got no junk mail, then 'they' seemed to learn it. Now I'm inundated. Filter set to high. . .. .I use mine purely for messenger these days. As with Polar_stereographic, my Yahoo account never has any.. . <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad.gif" />
