There are two main types - AGP, which is now the most common, and PCI. All modern motherboards include an AGP slot, but PCI graphics cards still exist and are often used to drive second (or third) monitors. There were once VESA and ISA graphics cards but both of those standards are now effectively dead.. .. .I'm guessing you have an older motherboard which just has PCI and ISA slots? Return the card from whence it came and get them to give you a PCI one. . .. .If you can let me know what your motherboard is I may be able to help further.

Maybe we could be of greater assistance if we have the motherboard details.. . . . [ 07 March 2002, 19:22: Message edited by: All That Glitters ]

In what way doesn't it fit? I would have expected a motherboard supporting the Athlon to support AGP too.

Open up the PC. Is the socket you plug your monitor cable into based on a card that is plugged into a brown slot, that is positioned next to a row of white slots? If so, remove the card in the brown socket (there will be a screw holding the card in, and possibly a strap at the other end!)and plug the new one in.. .If you plug your monitor into a socket which is close to where you plug your mouse and keyboard into, you probably have onboard graphics...still check you don't have a brown socket on the motherboard - however it is VERY unlikely that you have onboard graphics...if you could get the motherboard manual that came with the PC, it should be able to tell you whats what in there.. .Long story I am afraid, and if your motherboard has the AMD 751 northbridge you want to download the latest chipset drivers from AMD or the motherboard manufacturer site. If your motherboard has the VIA chipset download the latest VIA service pack (4 in 1)at www.viatech.com to make sure your new card will work! If you can find the motherboard manual that came with the pc and find the motherboard manufacturer and model, would be able to help you further. . .cheers

Take care....Not all AGP slots are the same.. .. .When my Intel PIII MB blew up my Creative Banshee (Voodoo3) AGP Graphics cards didn't fit the AGP slot on the new Asus P4 board. Forcing it isn't a recommended solution so I ended up paying another US$350 for a new Voodoo 4 card as well.. .. .What the technicalities are I don't know but the locator slot cutout of the connector tab was in a completely different place!!. .. .Whooaahh!!!
