Blueyonder Cable Broadband, anyone?
Have just registered for this service and they're coming round in two weeks time to rip up the path and plug me in to the cable.
Have any PPruners got any good, bad or ugly experiences of it?

I've had it now for around 6 months.. after a few inital problems with setting up the pc all is well.
Regularly watch streamning film trailers at upto 400kb/s.. no problem could go a bit faster. Mp3's can get at usually around 50kb/s.. hardly ever below that.
Pages load lightenly fast.. had the occasional downtime but not an often occurance.
Customer service.. pretty good once you get through. Have spent upto an hour during the weekdays trying to get through. But they've always solved the problem quickly.

Cost - Total, please? I do BT ISDN and therefore pay for the 'phone and the BT Internet. How would it compare? If it's a bit more, that's OK 'cos you're getting so much more for it. But I would jib at a big increase in outlay.

I have Blueyonder surfree, I think its called
unmetered unlimited and all it costs is 9 quid a month as long as you have at least ten quids worth of normal calls a month.
They keep trying to sell me broadband ,but whats the point, 56k is fast enough for surfing sites like this, unless you download a lot of stuff, I don't see it as worth it.
If I have to download a programm patch it may take a couple of hours, but what the hell its not costing anything.
If I am not working I just log on in the morning and leave it running all day.

For Broadband i'm paying £25 a month.. Think you might have to already have cable TV with telewest, don't quote me on it though.
Worth it if you use the net alot and regularly download large files. If not like TD says.. probably not worth it.

Sorry.. just read your msg again! doh!
If I remember correctly you can either hire or buy the modem (can't remember the cost sorry).. and there is an installation cost. However that means they install it and make sure your pc works before they leave. They spent a good 2 hours at mine checking things and trying to get mine to work, which in the end they did.

Thanks. Still a tad expensive for me unless I restructure the whole Comms set-up here.
Oh, and the decision has just been made for me. I've just been to that Blueyonder Site and find that it is not available in my Post Code area.

Blueyonder can be a bit of hard work if your system is pointing towards one of their duff proxy thingies. Mines OK and speeds are like those quoted above, but I think that the scots and NE England proxies are a bit slow. But that is all solvable by pointing your browser at one of the better BY proxies.
If BY is not available in your area try NTL http://www.ntl.com/locales/gb/en/ , they seem to be carving up the country between themselves, practically identical prices.
