Red face Fatal Exception

Anybodyhave a good reference for fatal exception codes?
I've got one stinker that destabalizes my system occasionally exception 06 occurring at 0000:00000017, any ideas??

What applications are you running when the crash ocurrs mriya...? The reference it quotes is a portion of your computers memory. These things are notoriously difficult to trace. In the title of the dialog box where the error appears, it may well give the application name, an .exe or a .dll where the problem has ocurred. If there's no apps running, try TSR's that are loaded up in your system tray (bottom right of the screen by the clock) such as and CD-RW, DVD dis detector or other programs.

Other than that, perhaps install Norton Utilities. I know other have had problems on this board with NU, but I've run it for years without a hitch.

The error message doesn't metion any file or file type... This problem occurs generally when I'm trying to view an image in either IE 5.5 or Netscape 4.7 (Communicator). I can't even figure out a way to force the error, it's just intermittant.
I've given your suggestions a try though - if I run into the error again, I'll drop you a line.

SYMPTOMS
When you press CAPS LOCK or BACKSPACE, you may receive the following error message:

A Fatal Exception 06 has occurred at 0000:00000017

CAUSE
This issue can occur if you have a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5100C/5200C scanner installed, and a Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 970 printer is attached to the parallel port on the scanner.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact Hewlett-Packard to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.

To work around this issue, uninstall the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 970 printer driver that came with your printer, and then install the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 970 print driver from your Windows 98 CD-ROM by using the Add Printer utility.

I'm running windows '95, and I'm too poor to afford an H.P. printer....

It may be though that you unknowingly have the HP printer driver installed. Go to Control Panel / Printers and check what you have installed and set as default. I know that sometimes you wont get True Type fonts without an approriate printer driver installed even if the printer isn't physically connected. Could be something as simole as that.
Also check what is running in the background by going CTRL ALT DEL, may have some conflicting and unnecessary TSRs. Good Luck

The question is are you running two or more devices on your parallel (printer) port? Scanner drivers can be particularly problematic.

The kb symtoms could apply to any bidirectional scanner / printer combination.

Since you're running '95 you should have a look in the control panel (start settings control-panel system) and flip to the second page (devices). Do you have any red exclaimation marks there? If so post back what they refer too.
