Angry C dilla

I recently found that a new directory had been created on my PC - C_dilla.

Apparantly its some kind of copy protection device. Since I have never asked to have this installed on my computer, I just wonder if there is any way to get rid of it? I have a feeling that just removing the files and changing the registry can have some negative effects!?

Must admit I've never heard of c_dilla until now. Apparently, c_dilla was acquired by Macrovision in 1999 and provides its products and services primarily to the home video, consumer multimedia software, digital pay-per-view, cable, satellite and video security markets.

Can't say why it has suddenly appeared on your HD. I have had a sniff around and whether it is classed as spyware or not is not conclusive.

If I were you, I would run "Adaware", Lavasoft which will find and remove it (along with any other known spyware programs). I would then use a decent Registry Cleaner to remove any scraps from the reg.

Personally, I tend not to remove individual entries from the registry as a mistake can be costly if you haven't made a backup and a nuisance if you have.

I use RegCleaner from JV16 and find it excellent.

For anyone interested, here is a list of software programs that are known to contain "spyware" - SISL - interesting indeed.

Best!

Thanks for the links. Both programs are quite efficient. The link to Lavasoft didnt work at the time I tried, but using www.lavasoftusa.com got me the progs.

I havent removed C_dilla yet, still considering the adverse effects it could have. Ad-aware does not consider this spyware.

I did however find some more interesting entries in the registry - two from KasperskyLabs (Avp32). I have no idea how they ended up there, I have never used any of their products. Someone told me it is put in by Winzip, but I cant really see why!?
