Asus Laptops anyone?

Anyone out there got experience with Asus laptops? Thinking of replacing mine and before I get swamped, I am not ready to go to Mac yet.

Interested in anyone's experience of build quality, after sales support etc.

Cheers,
Tallsandwich.

No personal experience of Asus notebooks, but their motherboards are in 25% of the world's PCs. As an ODM/OEM, it makes or has made notebooks for Apple, IBM, Sony, Sharp and Samsung. About 40% of its production is ODM/OEM.

The Ensemble line in North America has a 2-year international warranty on parts and labour, with an option to extend it to a third years, US only. In other countries it's 2 years international, with the option to add a third year international. There's also a 30-day zero dead pixel warranty.

I'm waiting for their Eee PC - small, cheap, robust, silly name. No Windows bloat, so it boots quickly, runs cool, and a 2GB solid state drive is plenty (though I'll probably get the 4GB model).

I walk to university and back, and will be taking notes in lectures. so I don't want or need a "desktop replacement" that weighs a ton, sounds like an APU, takes a minute to load a PDF (under Windows Vista), and cooks my sweetmeats if I use it on my lap.

I purchased an Asus VX2, which arrived at the end of May - I'm still waiting for Asus to get it working or for the retailer (Nexus 13) to refund my money. Everything I've seen suggests they're very good machines, so I assume my experience is not usual, but neither Asus UK or the retailer have fallen over themselves to resolve the issue.
