BT slower after 1300 hrs..?

I am on BT Broadband Total using the BT homehub, on an 8 meg connection.

My downloads (torrents and P2P) seem to be fine (200 kb/s +) in the morning up until about 1200 - 1400 hrs ish, when they steadily drop over a few minutes to <20kbs.

I have tried (oh God i've tried), to get things sorted with BT over the phone but the Indian tech help makes me want to throw myself out the nearest window.

I also experience regular disconnection. MSN stays signed in but I cannot receive or send messages and I cannot access web pages.

These problems seem to be common but I just cannot find a solution. And I can't find a well recommended ISP to replace them with either!!

BT = Bloody terrible.

Any opinions or insight much appreciated.

Thanks guys, Joe.

I'm with BT with a home hub and 8 megs. I keep a reasonably constant download speed all day, but it does depend on the site I'm downloading from, Microsoft and Rapidshare for example come down at around 700 to 750 KBs, on the other hand if you go onto some of the ftp sites it can be in the 100KBs region. If you're using P2P stuff then remember that 12 to 1300 is when the people in the States come on line so the networks gets much busier.

As an employee I get BT Total Broadband Option 3 free. Unfortunately we also suffer the same poor speeds and Indian tech support.

I am now seriously considering paying another provider, possibly cable for a service that works properly. Even if there are problems at least I can complain to trading standards or take them to court, both options denied by the free service.

As for BT Vision don't go there, my box lasted just over a month before I threw it in the bin.

I had these problems with my BT Home hub also on option 3. I discovered it was losing the time. I only noticed because the time display on a hub phone was wrong.

The solution is log in to the hub and manuallly reset the time and date. You can set it up to use a time server as well but these settings will be lost if you depower the hub.

Joe,

do have a wireless access point? If so make sure you have enabled encryption to prevent your neighbours from logging on and nicking your bandwidth. Maybe you have a neighbour that is in the habit of surfing and downloading prodigious ammounts of porn after midday.

I used to be a bit blase about such things until one day I came home in the middle of the day and found some theiving little git sitting in my front garden, with his laptop, logged onto my home network.
