Is it worth upgrading DDR2-533 to DDR2-800?

Hi guys,

My computer is going through one of its yearly upgrades.

Will I actually notice much improvement upgrading from 3GB of DDR2-533MHz RAM (which I currently have) to 3GB DDR2-800MHz RAM? I am already upgrading the graphics from 128MB ATI to dual 640MB NVidia (so 1280MB total with SLI)...

Cheers,

Martin

Isn't DDR3 on the horizon? Or so said PC Pro recently?

The answer to the original question is: what's the fastest memory the motherboard can support? If it's -533, there's little point going to -800.

If you need that kind of speed, then I'd wait for the next major step to be out and past the Beta test bugfixes.

The mainboard can handle up to -800, but if DDR3 is coming out in a little while I can upgrade my mainboard, processor, and RAM all at once next year...
