Pipex Broadband customer?

You may be less than enchanted to read this:-

Think company reputations somewhat at variance here?

As a former Pipex customer, who left for a reliable ISP, I think they deserve each other.

I dumped Pipex too when it was obvious that they were not keeping pace with the lowering of prices elsewhere. Now it is easy to see why.

I agree with Keef. They do deserve each other.

Hi F dubya,

Thought I would interject, but in any case Keef will come up with his ISP.

I am with TalkTalk and if you can stomach possible aggravation at the start it is a good service - now. For £20.50pm = free calls in the UK and free broadband. All calls to EU countries are free as are calls to OZ, NZ, US and CAN. HKG is not included though

Kind regards,

D

Talk Talk

The Talk Talk package mentioned by P.Pop looks good, but may not be available in your area. Take a good look around here and there before you decide.

I could recommend the ISP I use ~ but then I'd have to kill you

Talk Talk - you either love it or hate it! I know some have had good experiences, but the appalingly bad service drove my daughter nuts - frequent disconnections, slow speeds and an inordinate amount of time on the phone waiting to get through to what turned out to be an unintelligable help line. They eventually allowed her a MAC and didn't charge her for terminating contract early. She's now moved to the same, small ISP as myself (UK helpline at normal rates) and is much happier. TT's phone deals, however, are excellent!

I heard too many horror stories about the "all in one" telephone/internet packages and how the journey back can be very tricky, so I avoided those. My next door neighbour went for TalkTalk three months ago: it's working, but not as it should, and the screwups on the billing are amazing.

I dropped Pipex when I couldn't get the broadband to stay up for more than a day or so - hence couldn't connect back to home when away.

At the time, the top ratings on the review forums (apart from ADSLguide) were all Entanet resellers. I chose UKFSN at random from a list of three, all charging the same £19.99 a month for MaxADSL and trimmings. The changeover was flawless, and I've been totally happy ever since. I get messages from Jason about once every six weeks apologising about something that went hiccup, but that I hadn't even noticed.

There is a UK-based helpdesk (so I'm told - I've never needed to call it, unlike Pipex's helpless Indian one).

The Norfolk hideaway is on PlusNet, which was the cheapest option on a BT line at the time. That's been OK, too. I've heard (and read) the complaints, but not had a hint of a problem.

So, my view - stay with BT for telephone, and pick an Entanet reseller. Not the cheapest way, but hassle-free.

[Edit: oh, and UKFSN gives a fixed IP address, which makes the VPN and other things a lot simpler.]

I thought Pipex were one of the highly rated ISPs but it seems my impression was perhaps a little dated?

Sounds like they've gone downmarket to make a perfect fit with the new owners!

Incidentally, my current ISP, Madasafish have been quite dire on several occasions over the past year but the last month or so have been quite impeccable. Just announced - BT are buying them out, so maybe that's why they've kept everything going well?
