DVB-S Satellite PCI TV Card ( but for a Laptop!?)
Hi,
I'm looking for this product but for use on a laptop!

or any way of decoding satellite both digital and analogue signal for viewing onto a laptop!
It's all over my head- is it possible?!

You can have analogue and digital tv cards on one machine but if you intend to use it through windows media centre it is involved and requires various registry hacks. In fact it's difficult however you try it although it can be done. The best bet is freeview in the UK - you can find out more at the greenbutton.com. If you wanted to add a tv card to a laptop, I don't think anyone make a pci version - no room
However, there are various usb cards - Hauppauge is probably the best known. Just plug it in, load the software and off you go. However, the supplied aerials are rubbish. You wil only get a reliable signal by using the household aerial.

You will need a satellite dish and lnb to be able to use this to view satellite tv. So doubt whether it's practical to carry those around with your laptop
Try their website kworld.
You could use a usb stick type tv decoder, they will pick up freeview channels, these are the only channels you will be able to get without a dish.
Freecom do a pcmcia card type one Freecom.
But from what I've read you still really need a roof top aeriel to be able to tune the things in as the supplied ones are not great.

They're not great thode aerials. AFAIK mo one makes tv cards for satellite and laptops. Plenty for desktop pci though. Bear in mind if you want to record something and watvh another channel at the same time, you'll need either two tuners or a dual tuner. And again, I think dual tuners ar only available in pci cards though I stand to be corrected.

It's carrying around the dish antenna that makes satellite TV on a laptop less than user-friendly. Even digital isn't that good on a laptop unless you happen to be in the shadow of the TV mast.
I have a Hauppauge TV and radio USB device somewhere in the bottom drawer in my study. Nice idea, but it's easier to wander downstairs and watch a proper TV.

Oh but your grace, I might argue with that...
I've built a media centre pc for my front room, it goes like this: 5.1 speakers - one in each corner, high up above the picture rails and the bass bin hidden behind the lcd tv, windows vista home premium with 850gb storage across two hdds, xfx geforce 6600 gpu, creative audigy 2 and pentium 4 3ghz plus.... wait for it, Dvico dual dvbt freeview tuner and all told, it rocks. I can sit in my front room with my ms green button remote and have tv, music, pictures, video and dvds all at the touch of a button.
Particularly with tv, the tuners work great and the media centre guide is fantastic - although I have defended vista on here and may appear an ms apologist, I'm not - I do think ms get lots of it very, very wrong, a lot of the time - but I do think that media centre, when shown off to it's true capabilities is the killer application of the century so far and absolutely made for pc tv cards.
