MP3 player trouble

I've been gifted an MP3 player (Sony) today, and the sticker on it as also the box says "512 MB".

When I try to copy my music files into it, it maxes out at 117 MB! No hidden files, and the capacity as told by Windoze is also 117 MB. How do i get my.... 395 remaining MB back? I cant do with just a couple of hours of music fer god's sake!

Perhaps one of your MP3's is corrupted, or the total capacity is in fact 128 MB?

i hope to god not! I dont think the problem is with the music files. And if the capacity is only 128 MB, what a waste!

The other possibility is thst there are hidden files already on the player. Can you right click on its icon in Explorer and see its properties?

So what has happened is that the kind friend has bought a new 512 model, and popped the old 128 model in the 512's box. Your only option is to reduce the file size by ripping the tracks at a lower rate. At 128 kbit you'll get 1Mb/min approx., so you'll have 2 hours of listening.

Let's hope it's a short flight

The payer itself says 512 MB. Looks like I'll have to have a word with the chaps at Sony

And my MP3s are generally at 128 kbps anyway...
