Intermittent DVD ROM Failure?
Hi chaps - I've recently started suffering regular failure with the DVD ROM on my Fujitsu Siemens Laptop. Running XP home - explorer sees the drive but when I insert a disc it all too frequently comes up with the error "windows cannot read this media - the disc may be corrupt etc etc........"
The drive light comes on, whirrs a bit (but slowly and briefly) and then gives up the ghost! After maybe ten attempts with the same disc it finally kicks in (well mostly anyhow)
Any ideas forumites?
Thanx

Sounds like a dodgy drive (assuming it happens with various DVDs - not just with a single dodgy DVD?).
Have you tried cleaning the laser lens with a commercially available cleaning kit? Generally consists of squirting some liquid onto a special DVD shaped thing (sorry to be so technical ) and pressing Play!
