XP Error Message

Win XP Pro. Brand new computer.

When I select print in any software, a window appears that says: ‘There is not enough space on your PC. Make room on the hard disk by deleting some files’.

Hard disk: capacity 123Gb, used 8Gb!!!! Last tried when printing a 40KB file!

Just in case it’s memory related, the following memory figures are from Task Manager:

Physical Memory

Total: 523760
Available: 227100
System cache: 288424

Kernel Memory

Total: 54450
Paged: 32552
Non-paged: 21940

Any ideas? Or at least, how can I stop this annoying little [incorrect] warning appearing?

Is this the 64 bit XP Pro? In this, applications that install their own hardware drivers (ie your printer) will not work until you have a 64 bit driver installed for them. You don't say what kind of printer it is, but check the manufacturer's website for a 64 bit driver to download and install. If you have no luck there, try www.planetamd64.com good luck!

Googling for "‘There is not enough space on your PC. Make room on the hard disk by deleting some files" [hint] shows that this can occur with some older Brother printer drivers. If you have a Brother printer then upgrade to the latest drivers.

Otherwise turn off the warning, using the instructions in

Thanks guys - hit the nail on the head. 64 bit processor, works fine with my Epson 1290 but it's the Brother 1450 that produces the warning.

I'll update the drivers as suggested.

Well done! And thanx again...
