Help Computer Shutsdown
Hi
I hope someone can help, as of this morning my computer is now shutting itself down usually about 15 minutes after been started.
I end up with a black screen and no indication of any hard disc activity(no yellow light). A couple of times the system has frozen solid, with the monitor still working, the only option here was to switch off on the wall.
Have checked the usual things like hibernation and standby settings but they all seem normal. It may be unrelated but in the last week or so the monitor has flickered occasionally as if the power had been flicked off and on quickly.
Any idea on what may be the problem?
Thanks in advance,
FF
system is windows xp, have done a system restore, no idea how to start in safe mode!! it just did it again whilst I was editing the post(screen froze, mouse and keyboard inop)

LOL! 147c
However funny that may sound its probably incorrect!
Most processors burn out at around 90c-100c (in my experience!)
Your most probable problem is CPU Fan (the one that sits on top of the heatsink) has kicked le bucket!
I suggest you don't turn it on anymore because your more likey to do more irrepairable damage if it continues to overheat.
Its fairly simple to fix but I would suggest getting a new heatsink as well because chances are yours is stock(i.e. came with processor) and they aren't brillient quality and a new £20quid one will coll it much better and will improve life of processor.
overclockers.co.uk, or dabs r good (hope that was too obvious advertising but theyre gr8 places)
I use the thermalright ones but theyre quite specialist for overclocking and mostly 64bit systems.
hope that helps
