Mac connecting to Windows wireless network

I have been running a wireless windows network in ad-hoc mode for some time and have no difficulty connecting any windows machines to it. An Apple g5 now showed up and appears to cause me no end of problems. I have configured it with an Airport Extreem card which is working and it is in theory automatically DHCP configured. It finds my network but the trouble is, it then does nowt with it. I cannot get to the internet and cannot see any of the windows machines, even starting in console mode and running Samba. Equally, I am unable to ping any of the machines from the Mac and of course, trhe windows machines cannot see the mac. So, I have a non existant connection even though the Mac sees the network

Has anyone got any experience in this area?

Have you tried manually entering the TCP/IP info on the Mac?

My brother and I had trouble getting his iBook to connect to our network through a Linksys wireless hud. The manual settings seemed to work. Not sure what was wrong with the DHCP. After that is was easy transferring files back and forth.
