Windows XP and Real Player Files

Hi there, having a few problems getting files saved in XP into Real Player.

Basically I save the Audio CD's using Real Player in my XP settings, which are password protected, but save the music to the 'shared documents' file.

Next I log in under my wifes profile and do a system scan to retrieve the music into her file. However this either fails to find any info or just downloads the first track off each album. I have used the Real Player 'scan disk for media' and also 'add files to my library', the latter giving a message that data could not be found, check network settings. I have also tried taking my password off and doing the scans again, and have even targetted the albums directly, but still no joy.

I never had this problem before, but had to do a full re-install earlier in the year hence the need to put all my music back on the disk. The first 10 or so albums have fully downloaded themselves into her library, but then I got into this situation. My own Real Player library shows all the clips and plays them perfectly. I can go through windows and find the clips all listed in the shared documents, but when I click on the clips she wants nothing happens.

Hope this is all straight forward, I've given you as much info as I think is relevent, any thoughts on whats wrong?

Cheers in advance.

I have no experience of Real Player (as I actively avoid it being on my machine but that's a different story)

Have you tried copying the files into a shared folder on your C:\ drive for example. I think your problem is just a security issue, the reason that you can have multiple logon's is so that all users can have their own private areas to store personal files.

What you could do is right click on the folder that contains the files and check that both of you have access, if not give the other access. I would still go for a shared location however.

Front_Seat_Dreamer, thanks for replying, but the files are already stored in the Shared Documents file, so access shouldn't be a problem. As my wife's identity can download some but not all the clips, I feel its something a little more sinister. Any thoughts?

PS only use Real Player as the format suits and it changes files to MP3 easliy and free for the wife's Palm!!!!

Try saving another document into the shared folder just to check that the permissions are correct.

Real Player is a horrid piece of software

I advise everyone to get this piece of software, its an alternative to Real Player

Its a modified version of the original Windows Media Player, so no need for that awful Real Player software with its associated spyware and christ knows what else

Its brilliant

Have many things in the shared folder that can be accessed by the 2 other accounts and even the guest account, have tried a new one but still no joy.

Just an update on whats happenned!!

I'm having no problems using my wife's Account to load in the music and then transferring it to my own account. Have also recently found a similar problem with the program for the wife's Palm, and that was originally loaded on in my account. It seems that some programs loaded in my account, weather the password was on or not, are not available to other accounts, but any loaded in my wife's account are available to all, even the guest account. It looks like a security issue, and even though I allow all to see, even using the 'shared documents' files, the computer still blocks access.

All problems solved as far as I'm always going to load on new software in the wife's account in the future, but anyone any thoughts on how it could be sorted out??

Thanks in advance, 5mb
