Home Network setup problem
My sister is trying to extend her home network and add her son's school laptop to it, so he can use the printer etc.
The intent is to use a cable rather than wireless. The laptop has both however, and when she runs the setup wizard (XP) on the laptop all it can see is the wireless card.
I have suggested than she run the network diagnostics troubleshooter to check it can see the fast ethernet controller, and assuming it can, that her next step should be to disable the wireless card and rerun the network setup wizard.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
TIA

Go to START --> Control Panel --> Network and Internet Connections and click on Network Connections at the bottom right
This should give a list of adapters - is the Local Area Connection showing as enabled?
Another thought is that you may have to enable the on-board Ethernet in BIOS.
That would be a good starting point.
