Question Getting rid of system tray icons (XP)?

I recently installed a TV card however the supplied software always autostarts and there is no easily evident way to stop this via the software. I used to be able to find the sys.ini, autoexec.bat files etc. under '98 but where are they in XP? And which one will have the offending line?

Try running msconfig (start / run / msconfig) and disable it there. If that doesnt work, try installing Mike Lin's start up utility. Its here.

DB6,

Before running MSCONFIG go to:

START >> ALL PROGRAMS >> STARTUP

And make sure it is not listed there. If it is, just delete the link, you can right click on it and delete it right there, and that will stop it from loading at bootup. Also any program you find in STARTUP is not needed. (If they were needed at bootup, then they would have been added to the registry and would not have been placed in startup.)

Take Care,

Richard

Thumbs up

Thanks for the tips. It wasn't in the startup menu so I'll give the msconfig a try when I get back.
