Without the 1000 hrs, doubt it. Too many local kids with 250 hours right now.

You are absolutely right, they are not desperate. I have been updating my app over and over again without any luck. ATPL 3000 TT and 1000 737NG time. I just dont know what they are looking for?

In most airlines in Latin America, the selection process is done by HR. (mostly pyschological test, etc etc.) It does not really matter weather you have 10,000 hrs or 250 hours, it's more about fitting their profile.

Is the 737 type rating for COPA an FAA type? If not, what will it take to convert it to a FAA type on my FAA license? Has anyone done this?

Thank You.

It is not FAA and you will have to do an FAA type ride to get the rating as though you never had it

The type ride is valid in US provided that you get a letter of Validation from AAC ( FAA Panama, they charge $50.00, you have to have a request the letter of validation in writing from AAC)

Once you recive the letter you take it to your FSDO and they will give you a FAA B737 ATPL type.

The answer will vary from FSDO to FSDO, however this is taken from the Inspectiors hand book, and I verified it with my old POI.

kids

Those kids are panamenians , with or without experience they have priority over any other pilot in panama , the same is in peru , chile , el salvador , costa rica , mexico...they are lucky kids who were borned in growing countries so foreingers must respect nationals laws as we do it !

Captain pay at COPA

Anybody knows current and realistic captain`s pay at COPA nowadays?

They came to Madrid last week on a recruitment mission for DECs and gave us the $ 6300/month take home pay figure. Is that real or just BS?

Appreciate any comments from current or recent COPA Cpts.

Thanks

For the moment - 100% real, based on the 90hrs. Not included housing

But Copa at this moment is negotiating new terms with Union ....

Thanks buddy. Appreciate your info. I am really considering this airline and moving to Panama. They have a vast network and they keep expanding. Great airplanes and nice weather. They probably max you out but conditions will probably change if they want to retain people and get their return on investment.

Yowza! Lay off the booze when on the board my man.

Anyways, a random question for the Copa folks down there now:

I've been slinging gear on the 170/175/190 for the last 5 years up here in the States; would I have a chance to be hired direct-entry into the left seat of the 190? I know it says that the ATP is required, but, with no real upgrade in site at the $hit-show that I'm at right now, could I finagle my way into it somehow down there, or at least be offered it if I did well enough in the interview? Thanks for any info because I'm really getting sick and tired of all of these long-a$$ Canada overnights in the winter....

Not likely without 1k PIC on 50+ pax jet....but what can it hurt to try? COPA has received lots of apps lately based on the rumors of significant pay increase for expats....but it has not happened yet, so you would have less competition now than later if the pay increases.

Submit your resume for a PIC slot. What's the worst that can happen?

copa

Interviewed there 2 weeks ago... it is true they are negotiatiing at this time. The E190's are going away making room for more 737ng's. There hiring 250 hr F/O (Panamanian) for the 737.
