Work Permit and PR
Hi Guys,
I am an international student. I was wondering if it is possible to get a PR if i have a work permit after i complete my training and do work as an flight instructor for sometime and if im lucky to get a job in an airline. Can i apply for a PR later if i have enough experience?

Mashoor, we are pilots not immigration consultants! You are best to hunt around in the immigration Canada website for answers to questions such as this.
That being said, I *think* that you can do that - best to confirm with the government website, though....

In theory , It is possible but very difficult. You will preferably need other skills besides your pilot certificates . A degree from a recognized Canadian institution would help , I recommend Seneca college.

Mashoor I applied for the Work Permit soon after finishing my Pilot training which I did completely in Canada but I was refused. The second time I applied through a consultant, I haven't received a reply yet. It's been about 3 months since.
Like pfvspnf say's it would be better to apply after getting a degree from a recognized Canadian Institution.

-Once you finish your CPL with valid study permit,you are eligible to apply for Post grad work permit for max up to 3 years. I would recommend to do Flight Instructor rating right after CPL and then apply for Post Grad work permit. They will give it to you. No work appointment letter required.
-No one will hire you as a pilot if you just have CPL,MIFR. you need to build around 1000-1500 Total time,earned in Canada only! Instructing is most preferred way for people like you.
-As soon as you finish 12 months full time work experience on valid work permit,apply for Permanent residence under CEC.
-Check CIC website as earlier poster recommended.

This thread caught my eye, because my company has recently started an offshore contract in NE Canada and pilots were very clearly told that only Canadians need apply for slots in that contract. The company is very familiar with getting work permits for many nationalities in multiple international job sites, so I would be surprised if it balked at the mere technicalities of the Canadian work permit process
Heresay has it that the well established company in the same area has told its foreign pilots that work permits will not be renewed.
This is in an industry with a great shortage of relevant experience in Canada, ie type qualified, experienced offshore pilots, with a heavy helicopter IFR background.

Input Shaft, there is NO SHORTAGE of qualified Canadian heavy lift helicopter pilots with lots of IFR time, the only thing they might lack is a specific type endorsment in some cases, but you must understand that Canadaian companies normally fund type endorsments rather than hire from out of country, if a funny old tradition we have, it goes like this, "Canadian jobs for Canadians first", however with the rapid decline in oil prices it looks like this discusion is no longer valid! Sorry to be so blunt but there is no real shortage of Canadians to fill jobs, but there is a shortage of those willing to work for minimum wage, good luck to you.

Fair comments, I'm just interested in the politics of it all, certainly not interested in working in Canada myself.
It's just a dramatic change from the practices of the "other" NE oil industry company over the last few years and I wondered what had changed.

What has caused the change in the "Foriegn Worker" rules has been the abuse and straight fraud employed by some companies to falsify worker shortages thus being able to bring in folks from third world countries and treat them like crap along with very low pay scales, in fact a charter outfit has also brought in pilots from the old Iron Curtain countries and pulled the same stunts,{Flying on invalid permits by the way, a fact so far ignored by Transport Canada} however, now that the USA is getting over their Cuba hang up you will be plenty busy, theres oil under those blue waters and sandy beaches!
