Emigrating to Canada with aspirations of a flying career.
Hello All,
This is my first post, so be gentle. Joke!
Having searched the forum over the last few weeks, I have a few questions…….
My wife and I are born and bred in the UK, but have a Permanent Residency visa application in progress for Canada. We have been waiting two years thus far, and are not exactly sure how much longer we will have to wait.
I am considering a career change and would like to complete my PPL/CPL in Canada, in the hope of eventually obtaining a flying job there. I have no ambition in flying jets, and would be happy flying smaller planes, e.g. single/multi prop, whether it be in cargo/passenger transportation, floatplanes etc. Is anyone able to comment on the current availability of jobs in these areas? I have come across various websites advertising jobs, but what is the situation for small aircraft flying and job opportunities really like at present? I have read many posts on here and other similar sites highlighting the fact that you may have to work as a ‘rampie’ or a flying instructor for a year or two before securing a transport type job, and I am willing to do this.
In the ideal world I would like to come out to Canada before obtaining my visa, to complete my PPL/CPL training on a full time basis. I understand the fact that everybody learns at different speeds, and you want to become a competent pilot as opposed to a quickly qualified pilot, however, with this in mind ideally I would like to complete the training in the shortest period of time possible. Having looked at a number of Canadian schools, a lot of them carry out the ground training just one or two days per week, which obviously would not be suitable for me. Can anybody recommend any schools that provide daily ground school lessons along with flying on a full time basis?
Also, due to family, current job and financial constraints, an integrated/college programme i.e. over one year to complete, would not be suitable for me. Can anyone recommend the best way of me completing my training, given my circumstances?

I suggest you go to the Avcanada website and check them out there.
There is a free jobs section where a lot of the listings get put.
I'd say there is probably 2-5 F/O listings a week at the moment.

Winnipeg Aviation has specialized in international students for years.
They take advantage of our terrain and weather. I am a newbie on this forum so I don't know if posting a link is acceptable or not.

Harv's Air Flight School is pretty good. It offers online ground school which you can do at your own pace or a in class ground school which is 2 - 3 times a week. The online option is really good. It has instructional videos and quizzes for each section and then some practice exams at the end.
A lot of international students go there to do training. Some of them end up becoming flight instuctors there if you work hard.
They have 2 locations 1 about 15 minutes north of Winnipeg in St. Andrews and another about 45 minutes south-east in Steinbach.
