Darius,

That is an incredible resource. As someone who worked in a meteorology department, its great to have so many tools right at your fingertips. Thank you for sharing your efforts.

For longhaul international flying I use this:

Aviation - South African Weather Service

Sign up, get a username & password (it's free), and use this great service.

WSI is highly favored by many operators. Not free, though, and, I'm not sure about international coverage. The usual is the FBO terminal, but they offer an online version, as well. (No, I don't work for WSI)

Quote: "Sign up, get a username & password (it's free....."

WHY?

There is no need to sign in or identify oneself for both AWWS and ADDS mentioned above. Why does this pipsqueak operation want usernames and logins, even if it is for now free? In these days of ever increasing "Big Brother" and abuse of privacy rights it is valid to question the motive and agenda of unnecessarily intrusive operations!

"Why does this pipsqueak operation want usernames and logins....."

You'll have to ask them. After years of free service it became their policy some time last year.

And, there's nothing "pipsqueak" about it. Professional world wide coverage with excellent charts.

The only thing "pipsqueak" is the person with the arrogant attitude that resorts to derogatory comments about the motives of a service he knows nothing about.

If the aviation weather organisations from what are by far the two largest countries in World aviation - the USA and Canada - do not require intrusive procedures to use their services then there is no valid reason for an aviation weather service based in a minor aviation country such as South Africa to require it either. The subject service apparently did not have this requirement but has recently introduced it while still providing a free service. If it had introduced it to charge a fee then that would have seemed reasonable. However, the service is still free so that is not the reason. What other motive(s) does it have? There is indeed a valid reason to question the motives and agenda of the subject operation. If it does not like this questioning then the answer is to reform its modus operandi.

It is arrogant and ignorant to suggest that someone should have to ask them why they have an intrusive requirement that the major providers do not have and that this service should not have! There should be no need to ask because there should be no need for a username and login. Both AWWS and ADDS do not charge pilots to obtain weather information and they provide this without usernames and logins.

In this era of increasing control, reduction of rights, destruction of privacy and collection of personal information, particularly towards those who work in or are customers of aviation and air travel, it is disappointing that there are so many who are either not prepared to question the abusers or actually try to defend them. There are far too many organisations and agencies that are ever more unnecessarily intrusive or abusive. It is a sad and serious concern that there are so many who lack the moral fibre and principles to question and resist them or else oppose those of us who do.

The simple answer would be for this service to provide its professional world wide coverage without the username and login requirements, just as far bigger operations do. What could be simpler?

According to IATA Asia just beat out North America as the biggest aviation in the world. Canada has lots of aviation if you like Navajo's.

Pilotbrief International - WSI

Try this one. I think you need a subscription, but is one that is used by a number of airlines, and companies so is pretty reliable. If it's for private use then maybe not for you, but if it's for a company or a flying club then probably worth the expense.
