JAA Uk ATPL conversion to Canadian Atpl

Hi Guys,
Im wanting to emigrate to vancouver with my family. I have enough points for the visa, but wondering what I have to do to get canadian license.
I have 9500 hours with 5000 jet command and rating on Focker100/70
boeing 737ng and am currently Captain on A320 with about 2000 on type.
Also are there any jobs in Vancouver area. I know there are a lot of float planes and I could do a rating but does it pay much?
Am wanting to leave Uk before it gets any worse and we just pay all our salary to the government!
Any help gratefully received.

JAR to Canadian ATPL

The licence conversion is relatively straight forward, two written exams and an instrument flight test or 'type rating' if you are doing a 'company ride' in a sim (large a/c). However, I can't understand why, with your experience and probable seniority, you would leave an aviation job in Europe for Canada as pay and conditions are well below European standards and with the larger carriers there is no 'way in' as a DEC due to unionisation.

Regarding float flying, you could do a rating in 7 hours but would need float hours to get that first job, working the dock etc. The money wouldn't be great either. If you were retiring and just wanted a job to keep you off the street corners that would be different but if you were still looking at earning close to your European salary I think you would have difficulty realising those expectations.

Vancouver, and the thought of flying floats on the West Coast would be my idea of heaven! It is great, challenging flying but it is 'blue collar' flying and as such pays a 'blue collar' wages.

Unless you are thinking of going f/o on a twin otter out of the harbour, your chances of getting a float job out of YVR with 7 hours on floats are pretty slim to nonexistent. Most places will want at least 500 floats, and perhaps that much on type (DH2 or -3) which means closer to 1000 on floats. WRT pay, I believe that Harbour Air starts out on the -3T at ~ $65k/yr with a 4 on, 3off sked. Other places are paying ~$350/day for experienced float drivers.

While you might have a lot of time, it's not particularly applicable to west coast float flying.

There are probably a number of Corporate gigs available...London Air Services, for one, is buying a Global Express, and might be interested in someone with your experience. Also, Juan Air in Victoria has a 737-something on their o/c...

London Air Service is a first class operation and a very good company to work for. They promote from within. So you start off right seat Learjet, then right seat challenger, left seat learjet, right seat global/left seat challenger.

Float experience varies. Certain jobs require a minimum 250 hours float time.

Not to mention the high cost of living in Vancouver!
We also have some "foreign" (immigrated) Transport Canada Aviation Safety Inspector's in the Vancouver office. One's from the Czech Republic.

not to mention taxes here range anywhere from 15 to 50 percent of your annual income..

enter your estimated gross income and hit 'calculate', it will tell you approximately how much tax you will pay in each and ever province/territory here in canada and the tax bracket you fall into and so forth.
