Question Getting a start

Hello out there ppruners'. I wish to start my aviation career in Canada and I was hoping some of you could help me out by informing me as to where an inexperienced pilot is most likely to find work and at what time of year. I am aware that work wouldn't be too easy to get on the West coast and that I'd have to travel North and inland, but at this stage all I have is a National Geographic Atlas, an Australian CPL and a dream. Any information that helps me in my first big step would be much appreciated. I'd love to hear from the people that have been there and done that and anyone else that knows some good information.
Thanking you all,
tailhook.

Well, gee, heck of a move there tailhook. (BTW, tailhook?, military exp? didn't know the Aussi'S had a carrier). There are a lot of regional carriers up in the great white north of Canada, to name a few, there is Air Creebec, 100% owned and operated by the Cree indians of northern Québec, also up there even farther north is Air Inuit ( the Inuit people run that one) In Ontario, there is Bearskin Airlines and so much more. They all hire low time pilots to an extent depending on the demand. How much time do you have? Any way keep looking and let us know how you're doing "eh!"

Thanx for the info. I thought I should be polite and answer your question. My total time is 200hrs all of which was training so I figure I won't necessarily be knocking on the doors of regionals for a while.
Is Ontario a French speaking province, I know Quebec is. I suppose this is a very good reason to start learning french...
merci ami/e

What's not to be polite about? Tricameleer answered your question quite nicely, I thought. Maybe you didn't understand that the companies he mentioned are for real. And his request for your time was valid, in that with more experience on your part, his response might be different.

Anyway, good luck if you come to 'The Great White North'. Although aviation has been through some good times for the last few years, the road is never easy when you're starting out. Be prepared to do some driving when you get here, and bring enough money to tide you over.

One other thing: if you're going to pass as Canayjun, you'll have to forget speaking 'strine' and practice adding 'eh' to every sentence..

Take care, eh? (;>0)

Concerning the anglo/french thing, I've always worked in english without a problem in the province of Québec but knowing french IS an asset, being bilingual I guess gave me an edge, meaning it helps. A lot of radio communications are in french. But for the rest of Canada, everything is in english.
As for the 200 hours that you've got, I know of guys that we're hired with as little as 350hrs. fresh out of flight college sitting in the right seat of a bandit building up his hours before getting on to the bigger machines within the same company. Anyway, thats what I saw in the co. that I worked for, can't vouch for the others.

Question

Have you guys ever heard of any Oz pilots working there through sponsorship from an operator? Have Canadian tickets and want out of Oz.

Question

Spoon,
I know this doesn't help with your question as I know of no Ozzie's working in Can. I was wondering what the driving force was to get you out of Oz? I constantly wonder if it would ever be feasible to consider working there?
comments?

Post script....
Come to think of it I did meet an Ozzie bloke working at Cooper Air in Victoria driving a 206 and/or beaver but I know little about it. They do have a web site, www.cooperair.com if you want to try and get in touch with the individual, that is about all I know.

All is not lost. Very recently spoke to an Ozzie bloke flying a Canadian registered Twatter (on floats) into and out of Victoria, BC. I think the company was Harbour Air. Try them.

Why on earth do you want to get out of OZ now? The airline hiring situation is better that it has been in the last 15 years. There are all sorts of jobs in all areas of the industry. Canada is not worth it at the moment.

To full-span-spoiler - thanks for the info mate, will give it a go. Yeh, Oz is going pretty good at the moment, but it just depends on what you want. I flew in Canada for a bit and after flying in both countries, the grass is definately greener on the other side. TC are absolute darlings compared to our version, and the flying is real bush flying, plus I found Canada just a better place to live, visa vie the info I requested. Will keep looking for that back door in!

Thanks for the help guys. You've made my first biggest step that much easier. In the meantime, I'm trying to get my passport and visa together( as well as some more money ) but I'll let you know of my plans later on. If you hear of anything that might be of interest to me, I'd appreciate you letting me know, eh?
Talk to you all soon,
tailhook
p.s. No military exp. of course. Just the silliest name I could think of at the time.
