I too decided Big Red was not an option in my mid 30's. The Emb. "B" scale, Toronto only career, and massive(2b+) pension hole was too much to gamble from "little red". It would be 10 years to equal the $, let alone play catch up. The other big problem is the aircraft shell game, planes may show up but others leave out the back door just as quick. Just the facts..

Further to the comment of "no expansion or Airplanes coming for the forseeable future"...

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 6, 2005) - WestJet (TSX:WJA - News) today announced its Board of Directors has approved the purchase of one additional Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft by converting a purchase option with Boeing into a firm delivery. The 737-700 aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in December 2006.

WestJet is scheduled to receive 10 737-600 deliveries and two 737-700 deliveries in 2006. WestJet's aircraft to be delivered in 2006 are eligible for financing support from the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

Found this posted (today Oct.6) at AvCanada:

"Well some radical changes coming down the pipe, anyone that is registered online will be getting an email to update on the "new" format. All your information will still be retained from your last application. The new system just breaks down some of your qualifications better, and scored accordingly. 2500 hrs TT is the new time requirement. Then you will be phone screened by HR. Then hopefully the unchanged Behavior interview along with a quick technical exam. Apparently a small english exam and psycological test(sp?) to follow(multiple choice). A medical exam with the WJ doctor will now be manditory too...the usuals blood eyes etc...as for hiring an initial course is happening in Nov. and 737-200 transitions will be done by Christmas. First newhires will start in Feb and steady courses thereafter for 2006. best guess is around 100 but as we all know subject to change....personally not too fond of the new system, but they say it will save us money in the short and long terms.
