Nice Beaver 27th March 2007 21:48

At last, some people with a positive outlook about the whole bmi thing. I was beginning to think i was the only one. I've been with BMED for quite a few years now and I'm gutted that we will lose our identity. And don't get me started on wearing a hat again (does anyone else remember the days of hats and gloves for boarding in 35-40 degrees of heat in BEY and DAM?!?!?) Who knows, it might all turn out alright? Would be sweet as if we kept our routes and got a couple of Caribbean and States ones thrown in (open skies n' all) I'd do the odd bit of short haul for that.........:)

aeulad 27th March 2007 22:46

I feel for the office staff, but as crew I am quite looking forward to the bmi thing.

The US WILL happen if open-skies is agreed, which in the next 3 or so years, would give us crew rosters including the US, the ex-BMED routes and Europe, not a bad mix at the end of the day.

Short-haul does not appeal, but it was never going to be and is very unlikely to be a 100% shorthaul roster for us ex-BMED crew. Anyway, I certainly wouldn't grumble at the odd Amsterdam nightstop here and there;)

Regards

Mike

Was anybody at the BMED assessment days this past weekend? I was there on Saturday and have been offered a job. I'm really looking forward to it and glad to be able to experience the BMED culture for a little while at least. I can't think as far ahead to October anyway, but it will be interesting to see how both companies evolve through this merging.

steste 28th March 2007 16:05

Are you a blue or a red?

It's all speculative of course but it's good(ish) reading.......

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/transport/article1577590.ece

It's not over until the fat lady sings but I guess it could be an interesting situation if BA got hold of 50% of bmi, they would be the strong hold and could see bmi moving up to T5 possibly as well as sharing routes etc who knows? How exciting...(excuse me being a sad sack spotter)

On the other hand....

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle1556040.ece

Are you a blue or a red guys? ;O)

:o)

(If my comments are in any way irrelevant or far fetched, please forgive me, I'm no expert although stranger things have happened!)

How would you propose BA would fit BMI into T5 when T5 is not big enough to fit the existing BA operation in?.

Glamourpuss 31st March 2007 12:24

Congratulations jemimalj!

Well done on getting BMED!
I'm going to the assessment centre on the 14th April - getting really excited and nervous now as it is my first for cabin crew.
Hope that I will get to meet you on the course!

PS thanks to everyone for the info in this thread - really useful!

And the plot thickens...

SO, just when we think we know whats happening, they pull this out of the bag!

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle1593655.ece

Oh well Im guess the galleys will be alive with speculation.

NoodleDoodle 10th April 2007 08:32

Assessment days

To everyone who will be having their interviews later this month: there isn't really anything new I could say by way of tips because the usual 'be yourself' seems to apply. The people chosen to have 2-1 interviews on my assessment day were a real mixture of people. In other words, there doesn't seem to be a particular 'type' they're looking for.

I did take note of one comment made, that they were going to be deciding 'whether they would want to fly with you, or not'. I guess this works both ways and you'll have to decide if you would want to fly with them!! :)

However, I found them to be very friendly and really put you at ease. I forgot they were there most of the time during the group exercises.

I guess they can spot genuine enthusiasm from those trying too hard. On the other hand, don't be so laid back that you look bored!! Keep your ego impulses at a healthy level and be open to those around you.

Congrats to all those who have been offered jobs....I look forward to meeting/flying with you. And good luck to the hopefuls. :ok:

(I start my training on Monday 16 April because I could give short notice.)

All the best!!

arewehomeyet 10th April 2007 10:25

Assessment Days

Cheers Noodle Doodle for that, every little helps. I've been offered a position with a charter and start my training on 23rd April, however I still intend to go to my BMED interview on the 29th because of the two, its the BMED that I really want.

Good luck for your trainining. :p

Assessment Day - HELP!!!!!!!

I really need help at the moment:eek: The house is being renovated at the moment and to be honest I've seen it tidier. In the meantime I have my assessment with BMED on the 29th of the month and I can't put my fingers on the sheet of paper that tells me what I need to take with me to the assessment day, to say I'm panicking is putting it very mildly.

I think I need to take passport size photographs (and passport obviously), however I'm sure I had to take some sort of statement/personal reference. If anyone has their assessment days coming up could you please let me know as soon as possible - I'm starting to lose weight with the worry (which probably isn't a bad thing if I'm honest) :yuk:

vodkaholic 21st April 2007 18:59

to my knowledge you don't need to take a reference with you....but you will need details of your past employers for 5 years and 2 personal referees. you will just need their address/phone numbers etc.
Think you also need to take details of your doctor...

G-MEDA 29th April 2007 11:07

Either way, they won't forget about anyone! best of luck!
keep us posted!

1964nick 29th April 2007 12:55

Hi I also start on 14th May
looking forward to it, but worried about the future when we go over to BMI dont want to be traveling up to Heathrow everyday for short haul. Some people are saying they will give all our routes to present BMI Crew and make us do the short haul BMI routes. As there is not a 2p (agreement think thats what it is)they can do with us as they like or we leave, so I hear. But I think it could be an exciting time to join both BMED and BMI so thats how Im going to keep thinking, no one really knows whats going to happen except the BMI management.Have to wait and see!

Nubboy 29th April 2007 20:14

no one really knows whats going to happen except the BMI management:ok:

bmi interview

I've the interview with BMED the 13th , i spoke here with an italian guy who works in bmed and told me that at the moment salary is quite good around 1500 gbp as entry level. Rosters sound quite good too, he told me that many cabin crew commute so i think that after any a trip u have some days off. The problem is that nobody knows what will happen with BMI cuz they want to cut salary up to 30 per cent, reduce annual leaves from 30 to 20 and allownces in bmi are really cheap. BTW if ther's some BMI cabin crew who want to explain us how's life in BMI ( rosters , wages... ) are welcome

Petc01 2nd May 2007 21:23

bmi and bmed

bmed, bmi, it all depends on what you are looking for. No one knows at the moment how the integration of the two airlines will work. The plan is to take the best practice of both airlines and evolving to one airline that will have Domestic, European, Mid-Haul and Long-Haul out of LHR. No formal decision has been made as yet and the integration team is still hard at work seeing what works.

Please don't listen to the rumours out there. They are not going to just take all the bmed crew and have them operate shorthaul flights and vice versa!! That would be business suicide as they would be taking away the experience both ways!!

As for bmi, they have just posted their '06 results and it makes good reading...almost 200% increase on last year. They still own the second largest number of slots in LHR and with open skies next year, they are planning launching more longhaul routes out of LHR.

It all depends on what you are looking for. If you intend to commute from outstation and want long-haul flying then probably bmi is not for you. If you want a mix and joining what could be a rapidly expanding airline that is still considered small and friendly, then you should give it a go.

Either way, good luck in your choice!!

1964nick 3rd May 2007 05:42

Thanks for that PETC01 Im looking forward to the merger, think it will be a good thing all round for both crews.

ladyflyby 6th June 2007 21:37

I am getting my Hepatitis A/B and yellow fever vaccinations but what do you do regarding anti-Malaria tablets? Is there any particular medication people can recommend (without too many side effects!)

really not 7th June 2007 15:59

Don't worry about anti-malarials. The company supplies Malarone sufficient for each trip + 5 days, and there is loads of DEET spray available.

FLYING GER 9th June 2007 19:53

Yippee!

Just to let you all know went for interview today and after an hour recevied a call to say i got the job!

I was one of seven out of about 30 odd!

Start training on 17th July!

changes2007 9th June 2007 22:04

well done flying-ger

Congratulations.

Almost certain I will go to the next interview.

What did you think of the company etc?

ladyflyby 10th June 2007 14:35

Uniform

How does the BA Uniform shop work? My uniform fitting is two days before my training and I need to get shoes now. Is it ok to go in without an appointment to try shoes? Believe me, I've tried everywhere else!! :ugh:

changes2007 23rd June 2007 16:40

Dilema!

If anyone can help that would be great.

I was lucky enough to get a job with Bmed and I really liked the feel of the company. However I would be a 'commuter'. My worry is when the company becomes Bmi do you think I will have to do lots of short-hauls? If anyone is reading this working for Bmed or Bmi do you know any up to date news on how the merge will be??

Bmeds money is also good but doing shorts if that is the case with Bmi should I expect less a month in wages? :bored: Thanks.

ladyflyby 23rd June 2007 17:51

Hello, I start my BMED training on Monday and will also be commuting once training has finished. I was told in my interview that the old BMED routes will be split between long and short haul but they didn't know where the staff would be going - between the two I suppose. We won't be the only ones affected and we'll know more in the coming months, if bmi share with us their plans!

747-436 24th June 2007 11:13

I would imagine that first of all BMI crew will be doing BMI routes and BMED crew will be continuing to do the old BMED routes.

I would think that as time passes the crews will become more and more integrated as it makes more sense for an airline to have the flexibility of having crews who can do both short and medium haul flights rather than having 2 seperate sets of crews.

But then again who knows what BMI will do!

galanjal 18th November 2007 19:20

bmed to bmi

so how is it going for you all? I have done a few flights and not too bad. not ideal though. and that crew room is like Hitlers bunker! what do you think?

Little Blue 18th November 2007 19:57

Believe me, the crew room has improved a million percent in the last couple of years. You should have seen the OLD sofas !
