Ive had it happen twice at speed where had I not been sat down then it would chucked you around.Once was when they were turning and approaching what use to be D58 and it broke on the turn. The plane went one way and the tug went the other. The power went and then it stopped on the spot.I believe they had to go and fetch another bar as the one that broke was in pieces and quite a few pieces as well.

Brookhouse, in the UK, the Air Navigation Order (the law!!) stipulates that passengers are required to obey any reasonable command issued by the aircraft's commander (and therefore those issed by CC). I think remaining seated and buckled-up while enroute to the stand is a more than reasonable command and one which I am minded to obey!

Getting to the point, whilst on approach to Dhaka many of the passengers were stood up getting bags out of the overhead lockers. This seemed to set the rest off and by the time the DC10 landed most passengers were struggling in the aisle with bags. If evacuation had been necessary it would have resulted in a fight for the doors, quite frightening to our friends.. If they choose to get up after that, we can deal with it there and then. The important thing is landing the plane which I wouldn't be happy to do with a cabin full of standing passengers. |
Actually, what makes me laugh (and roll my eyes the most!) is when it's a flight into somewhere like Brussels or Luxemburg or Venice, etc - where they all fight in the aisles to get off the aircraft first..... then wait in the bus for all the other pax!
Heh heh.... |
I think all captains should go on a heavy braking type strike for a month, so the passengers will know what happens in the near future if they get up before the sign is turned off.

PA's are for the benefit of everyone else - not them, it applies to everyone else but THEM!
Remain seated and clear of the gate area - everyone jumps up and crowds round Have the correct boarding card with your passport open at the photograph page - cue a group of 20 handing over a pile of boarding cards and a pile of passports We want people sat in rows 30-40, first people to come forward are in row 4! I'm always tempted to add on, yes sir this includes you aswell, yes you at the front I fully agree with the suggestions of hitting the brakes and throwing everyone forward - that'll teach em :} (love them all, really I do  ) |
Brookhouse, you make some "interesting" comments:
but I've never seen a passenger injured nor any aeroplane burst into flames in the last 10 yards of coming on stand which is when people start to unstrap I suspect also you have not in fact had the delight of feeling 3000psi brake pressure, as if you had any pax standing would certainly have been not standing thereafter. Anyway, its a bit hard to read the brake pressure gauge from the cabin. Aviation quickly teaches you that if it can happen, it will, if you'll excuse the use of a cliche. |
Pukeko - What about those pax who battle to get off the a/c first who seem to be convinced that their bags will be on the carousel first! Teh-heh!:E

Was flying Ryan Air once when the FA came out with a priceless PA:
"The toilets on this aircraft are excessively dirty, so could volunteers to clean them please stand up before the Fasten Seat Belt sign is extinguished" It took a few seconds before the penny dropped! My two pet hates as a pax: 1. Ignoring the safety announcements. 2. Standing up before the aircraft stops. |
