!

There won't be any redundancies at London. Considering that the basic pay per crew member is £7000 per person less than main crew at QCCA this saves the company 5million+ each year. Then there is the fact that there is no hotel, transport, allowances to worry about in London this is a lot of money saved.

Australian based crew are coming to London next roster as London crew have gone to Australia for the past 2 months. Which seems to be normal for this time of the year. European summer starts now and lots of our crew have annual leave booked in for July,August,September which was obviously booked well in advance before Dubai started and some crew have obviously moved on which happens in every company, the new flying doesn't tick everyone's boxes. Hence our crew numbers are down for the summer season.

As for the loads yes at first they where down but now both flights are operating nearing full loads :).

Crew have been upline fatigue but if you think about this for a second, crew on
A 3day 2 off 3day 2off 3day 2off 3day 2off

We are awake all day before we go to work, we fly to Dubai max 1 hour break, some crew sleep a little in Dubai but check out isn't until midnight some people are awake for many hours before call then a night flight home followed with 2 days off. Do this non stop and some crew are hitting the 18-20 night flights a roster, with no sleep either side so please put yourself in this persons shoes and say you wouldn't feel the pressure. It's not the 3 day trip that crew are worried about its the missed nights sleep and constant day rest. If you have your own opinion keep it to that.

For many years there has been rumour after rumour that the base will close. I know lots of crew would love it to happen so they can come to Europe. But this is an established base and works well in London. Customer satisfaction is always high and we are a great cost save for the company in a whole.

Everyone in London applied for an advertised job and they don't deserve to be constantly worry what other crew are saying around the company, on board or around the pool in Dubai. Nobody will no about any base until its officially released so let's keep a happy workplace hey!

Interesting post and i hope the Qantas UK base does remain open and people get to keep their jobs. It does make sense to keep it open if they are making huge savings having a UK based crew.

But why did they hold 2 weeks of Assessment days recently to employ more cabin crew?

It does seen a bit of a waste of time to start a recruitment campaign when they have just merged with Emirates.

Hopefully the LHR DXB flights will continue to grow allowing new crew to join Qantas.

Both flights are operating at near capacity are they? I'm not sure what flight your looking or operating on but it's certainly not the QF9. It's leaving Melbourne with an average of over 200 spare economy seats and business class around half full, (certainly great for staff travel)and this as we enter peak season in Europe! The only days it dips below 200 spares is on the weekend. The return out of Dubai is not much better with an average of well over 150 spare seats. Loads ex-Singapore are running at way less then 50% into all Australian cities, so trust me when I tell you it's not only the London base crew that are worried!

Those of you who are smart would move on to VS or BA, and create a career for yourselves there.

As far as the base closing, remember that it only takes one announcement one day to change everything, just look at the AO peeps. That morning they were all reassured by the managers that it wasn't closing until the announcement that afternoon.

Fear not DizzyLizzy, 3 initials classes are underway as we speak, with more to come. Maybe you have a case of sour grapes but nonetheless, don't bag on other careers.
