In order to assist you with your re-application Recruitment & Promotion will contact you once recruitment commences.

Oh yes, more lies from Lesley's team at QCC level 4.

Leemo, Galley Hag, Cart Tart, keep trying to tell them guys, but really, you're hitting your heads against a brick wall. Let the suckers do what they will.

Are these all true???

HI

I been following this thread since it started, it seems like Qantas has seriously got some problem. Are they all true??, i mean its the biggest airline in Australia can it be so stuffed up??

MochaSwirl 27th Aug 2004 10:36

QFshort30...
You had to pay for ur own medical?! How stingy is that?!

In the email that I got it says "Costs associated with the Qantas Medical will be covered by Qantas
Airways."

So I guess its a bit better this time around?

Yea, and I understand that doing the medical doesn't guarentee a job... not until you sign on the dotted line....

Thats why I think i'll be taking the other job... at least for now anyway :)

TSSOV 27th Aug 2004 10:55

i have my fingers crossed for you MochaSwirl! i dont know about the rest of QF CC Recruitment, but Mocha's are my fav.... special in a pleasantly friendly way:D :D :D

SMILE!!!

Medical Checks..

Hey Guys,

I'm shocked to hear that Qantas is covering the cost of medicals... I thought they stopped that years ago. For an airline who are so "keen" to save money I can't understand why they would pay for the medicals. All I can assume is that they received such flack from the previous short list that waited 18 months only to receive a no, that they felt they had no choice this time...

Then again, I dont think they would be so considerate. At the Melbourne group interviews, they did cover the cost of our security checks, and even then I was shocked at that!.....

Anyway, Good luck MochaSwirl... Go for the medical.. Even if you dont get through, or dont accept, at least you can say "I" costed Qantas .........$$$$$$.... Now that would be a change..

Cheers Guys

chinup 27th Aug 2004 23:49

but remember Mocha girl was on the short list b4 and had to send in ASIS forms. Recent ass centre candidates had to fill out ASIC forms right there and then, together with Customs notification forms.

Some ppl are suggesting that no panel or one on one is in order after the assessment centrew,t hat is why they brought in specialist recruitment firm ( so many of them ) normally 3 0r 4...not 13 like we had. That's it get past ass, then medical etc..... the position is only for 4-11 months so they don't need the best of the best, all will complete their contracts and that's it.

What's is everyone's feeling on this?

ASIC I mean.

Also can someone tell me why so many ppl fail the medical?

I know drugs show up in tests, but surely there are other reasons?????

MochaSwirl 28th Aug 2004 01:25

Hi Chinup,

Which shortlist are you talking about? If it is the one from 2 years ago that you are refering to... I was not on that short list.

I just applied thru StaffCV and they sent me an email about 1 month ago for an interview...

I went thru an initial, 2nd (group) interview and what they said was a panal interview (but only 2 people interview me on a round table :p ... haha)

and 3 1/2 weeks after the "Panal" interview, came this email about the medical and security checks..

:O

waiting_game 28th Aug 2004 07:06

So true about the medical meaning nothing, I have known a few people who have got thru the medical then were flicked.

In the email I received it also said QF would cover all costs associated with the security check & medical. I had to read it a few times to make sure. At the panel interview they told me that the next stage was a security & medical that I would have to pay for, I just assumed that anyway thats why I was so suprised.

Mocha if you are able to (with work etc), i'd go along to the medical. Why not?? you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Also can anyone out there tell me whats involved in the medical??

Nans 28th Aug 2004 08:07

Hi All

This has been a very interesting and informative thread, thanks!

I attended the Melbourne assessment day on 25/08 - haven't heard anything yet but don't expect to for about two weeks.

it seems they're doing different things in different states. Everyone at the assessment centre filled out the ASIC form and provided copies of our ID for it.

It's all very confusing and seems to change often. I was very suprised that they didn't have any interview on the day but that must be the next stage.

Really hope I get this job. Congrats to those that have!

Hopefully, I'll be flying with you soon.
Nans.

GalleyHag 28th Aug 2004 09:45

Maybe QF are covering the medical and security costs because they no there will be no chance of permanent employment unlike in the past where there was a chance for fixed termers to be offered permanent employment.

chinup 30th Aug 2004 06:03

response plus I finally heard from QF

Hi Guys,

Firstly, Mocha I'm confused like the others, your situation seems quite different, don't know this is my 1st application with the airlines, but sounds like all stages have been done differently.

Galley hag....don't dismiss fixed term contracts. I have done contract b4, all were supposed to be fixed and terminated with no further employment. Each time I was offered further employment, and I think if an employee is a good one and not only meets but exceeds QF's expectations, I can almost gurantee that further work would be provided, whether that is with a subsidary or short-haul. Remember this long haul recruitment drive is truely exciting.

That been siad, I have heard from Qantas and I got to next stage, my references are being checked as I write this. So rumour about the assessment centre being one big interview seems almost certain. 13 recruiters, all discussing our actions between discussions, tests and psych test etc....

So now I nervously wait for next stage...but I am just so confident, sometimes DESIRE shines...

Anyone else hear yet?

Chin up everyone

Good luck

Nans 30th Aug 2004 07:27

Congrats Chinup, that's fantastic.

Just one question, you said that you were contacted by Qantas and you're through to the next round. What's the next round? I'm assuming from your post that it's the medical and not an interview???

Left2primary 30th Aug 2004 08:06

Chinup,

just some background information for you and others re QF's plans for the fixed termers.

QF are, up untill the 23rd of december this year limited in the number of crew it can employ offshore.

This figure is "capped" at 370 total and is made up of both BKK and AKL based crew.

QF have in the past, moved contract longhaul positions to fulltime because to let them go and retrain others as replacements was a waste of money.

As mentioned before once "the cap" expires QF are free [unless the FAAA can stop them] to move to "de-Australianise" the airline by employing as many CHEAPER offshore crew as they like.

Leaked documents from QCC4 indicate that they wish to move to 25% of the workforce.

QF management are basically driven by three things. Money, money and more money.
Senior managemment are reumerated in the way of performance bonuses. If they dont successfully screw those under them to boost the bottom line, they get the bullet.

As a long term QF longhaul employee I wish all those applying for the fixed term contracts the very best.
Once you ARE in, we want to keep you. The VAST majority of us will fight tooth and nail to do so.

The London base is the ONLY impediment to the contractors attaining a fulltime position at QF.

If it does go ahead the contractors will ALL be surplus to operational requirements as cheaper crew will be available offshore.

L2P - "lets screw the roo"

GalleyHag 30th Aug 2004 12:04

Chinup

Sorry to inform you but you are SO wrong. With all the information on this board I am surprised you are not aware of the current situation. The current fixed term crew are being employed for 1 purpose only and we all know what that is.

QF could care less if you are a good employee or not just ask the people that were on fixed term a few years ago with excellent trip and attendance records that were let go by QF and never contacted again.

From memory I am pretty sure that fixed term crew cant be extended beyond something like 12-18 months after that time they are either made permanent (and we no this wont happen, read the QF business plan for more information) or they are let go.

Dont delude yourself into thinking QF care you will just be another number.

ozskipper 30th Aug 2004 12:52

I think anyone who takes a contract needs to go into with the view that the contract is for the period specified.

Anything on top of that is a bonus.

There are no guarantees in any job unless its in writing!

QF Long Haul Fixed Term

Hi guys and gals,

Did anyone else receive a call from Qantas re the QF Long Haul Fixed Term Contract interviews in Melbourne this week - Friday?

I received a call and declined.

QFFLYGAL

babyboo 31st Aug 2004 11:30

I went for the ass. centre today in Brisbane. I am not sure they are keeping track of what they are doing,..as they called me in the middle of the day again today and offering me another assesment for 10/9 in Brisbane while I was already attending the one I was called for last week,....

I haven't declined for a simple reason,...I was curious what will be happening and if I will be good enough to be called in for the panel interview, which I doubt,..but anyway I had fun,..I wnat to see what stage they will say to me,..Thank you, but we don't want you yet,...

Good luck to everyone who is really passionate about getting the job,..at this stage,..the contract job is not what I am after.
I might just wait a little longer ,..few years I guess and have another baby,..;)

But anyway,..good luck to all of you who have the real desire and passion to do it,..don't be intimidated by the fixed term,..is the experiance,..and temp job is better then none,..

Cheers
Booooo

leemo 1st Sep 2004 07:50

Congratulations to the current fixed termers who are now out on line. Great flying with some of you on my recent London trip.

If we all stick together and prevent the London base from opening there is a VERY good chance you will be made permanent.

The flight attendant union (FAAA) has been blocked by management at Qantas (Mark Hassell) from attending your training and advising you of your rights.

I highly recommend you join the FAAA. This can be done by visiting their website: http://www.faaa.net/index.asp
or mail me with you address details and I will pop an application form in the post for you.

Look forward to flying with more of you in the near future. Finger's x'ed you will be kept on.

leemo

waiting_game 1st Sep 2004 09:27

leemo,

Very nice of you to welcome the new fixed termers and offer them advice and info on joining the FAAA. If I get the job i'll be contacting you, you are very very helpful.

I've been to my medical already, went ok i think. Guess now I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Anyone else been to a medical or heard anything??
