I heard today from a very reliable source, ie QF management... that there are 10 planned, longhaul contract schools to go through by the end of the year, and 12 MAM schools, also to go through by the end of this year!!!! MAM schools will be across all bases.
Just thought you all may be interested...

TSSOV 2nd Aug 2004 09:39

how big is a training school?

go_dj 2nd Aug 2004 13:34

TSSOV

Should be at least 25 on a course, 22x25 = 550
plus 400 in London, plus the Thais & Kiwis should
bring the total somewhere near 1500, nothing here about extra training courses in Thailand, my crystal
ball say's come December it will be game-set and
match to Geoff Dixon.

QF

Go_DJ,

Did you join the dark side ( QF ) ? Just wondering where you got your information from ? There is not always 25 to a course at QF unless you left DJ and joined us to know this info first hand ?

SYDGIRL / OZSKIPPER - Nice to meet you both finally. ;)

ozskipper 3rd Aug 2004 09:26

There's usually 14-16 to a class.

Very cool to meet you also QF Skywalker - apologies for not being overly chatty. Apart from EP's I managed a dose of food poisoning and a cold.

And I'm pleased to report that the rumours about you were true!! ;)

In relation to strikebreaking and fixed term contractors - I understand that QF will no longer offer permanent ongoing positions initially. Well thats the position at the moment. As I understand QF intends to have a more flexible workforce and if that means short term contracts then thats what they will offer.

Its been stated on numerous occasions - most of the fixed term contractors are FAAA members and can make their own assessment as to whether to participate in protected industrial action or not - just like the permanent ongoing staff.

!

ozskipper,

Rumours ? I'm a bit scared now - please elaborate ! What have I done ! WHAT RUMOURS !

Did QF give you any indication that maybe your contract maybe extended if your performance is good in 10months time ?

I'm not suprised you ended up with a cold after learning all of those different a/c types - one lass in your group was kind enough to tell our bunch to "ssssshhh" as she was stressed and trying to study in the lunchroom ! Go elsewhere to study cupcake !

Hope it all works out for you 10month f/a's :D

10 more training schools

Hi

10 more training schools is quite a lot. Will they be filled from the recruitment that is currently in process....assessment day was on Monday I think?

Anyone know if more assessment days are around the corner?

Thanks and happy flying Ozskipper.

Cheers

OZcabincrew 3rd Aug 2004 15:39

We only had 10 people in our ground school and there is only 9 in the current Perth based MAM school currently in progress. So that makes a total of 19 casuals in Perth, i can't see any more coming into Perth unless they're expecting an increase in flying otherwise there will be an awful lot of people just sitting around doing nothing for a very long time. My opinion anyway.

More News Updates

Candidates who attended last week's Assessment Days were all given feedback this week and are heading to Panel interviews this week.

This is the fastest turnaround by Qantas for sure.

** End of Update ** We will cross to a advertisment shortly.

Information share

Thanks buzzi_lizi for your information on long and short haul.
especially the medical one re- vacinations.

I got through to the third as informed yesterday.
It is indeed the fastest process I have been through in 17 years of applying to the QF group.

Hi Buzzi_Boi... or anyone.. help me pls?!

I have already been passed the panal interviews...
that was last Monday... (I am a language speaker, our interviews were held a bit before)

QF has rang my referees ... etc etc...

I asked them how long I needed to wait before hearing from them ... they said a few days... another person said 3 working days...

now.. its a week and a bit!! I still haven't herd frm them! should i call?

Another friend of mine has been sent a rejection letter already thru email the next day after the panal interview... but I didn't hear anything...

Its driving me crazy. Do you think they are interview other people now and haven't really made a decision? Should i ring?

Bizzi_Boi 4th Aug 2004 00:37

Patience Session Begins

Hmmm MochaSwirl,

My advice is, NOT to call. Simple reason being they have a lot of applicants to sort through. As painful as the wait seems, I do not think calling is a good idea.

Although years ago ( back in our parents years ), to call up was a sign of dedication and a genuine display of commitment. But I just think you have to play the waiting game.

I mean, I know of someone people who called during the MAM wait and were just told, to await a phone call and no further details could be supplied.

It's painful I know MochaSwirl. Just try to keep yourself busy and set a date say like next Monday as to when you think you will hear from them. That way it will keep your mind off it. I think the worst thing is the waiting and esp when they tell you they will contact you in a few days and that day passes.

Patience my dear friend. And fingers crossed.

ALL the best !!

Cheers,

Bizzi_Boi

It never rains but it pours

Update... Now to stage 3 with QF international and MAM MEL.

I have been flying around the country like a positioning F/A
to all these interviews... PS no good with Pacific Blue this week...may have had too much virgin flair... I was very funny, even if I do say so myself.
Destiny has prevented me from selling food from a cart giving the wrong change...in my favour of course! and doing very poor simba face paints on unsuspecting 5 y.o's.
Not to mention PA's for Mike Hunt, Mike Hunt.... Has anyone seen Mike Hunt at every opportunity.

So two finals end of this week and early next week.
God what if I get both and have to make a choice?

:} :} :}

ozskipper 4th Aug 2004 06:52

Nothing to worry about QF Skywalker - in fact the rumour was very complimentary. I tend to agree with it having met you!

As for whats happening after the 10 months - its been very plainly stated - "No guarantees".

Which girl shushed you? I'll need a detailed description so I can be horrified on your behalf..... (and then of course take the @@ss out of them in my own special way!).

Cheers

Q-T 4th Aug 2004 11:37

SYD GIRL, I SAW THAT YOU MADE A COMMENT ABOUT MY POST . YOU ARE DEAD RIGHT....
QF MANAGEMENT BEING UNRELIABLE- I WAS BEING SARCASTIC, BUT IT DIDN'T COME ACROSS THAT WAY IN MY POST!!!!
I GOT THE INFO REGARDING NO OF TRAINING SCHOOLS ETC, FROM A PERSON WHO IS IN THE KNOW AND THAT WOULD PRETTY MUCH NOT FEED YOU A MOUTHFUL OF CRAP, WHEN IT COMES TO INFORMATION REGARDING RECRUITMENT ETC....

HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT IT IS A HUGE AMOUNT OF SCHOOLS TO PUT THROUGH IN SUCH A SHORT TIME FOR QF!!! BRING IT ON I SAY. GOOD TO SEE LOTS OF NEW FACES OUT THERE.

A friend of mine is conducting some of the interviews. They are pushing through groups as quickly as possible so they have people trained up as strikebreakers over Christmas/New Year.

As a fixed term contract flight attendant you can join the FAAA. I highely advise you do as when I was fixed term they helped tremendously in getting myself and the rest of the fixed termers permanent positions.

If the London base goes ahead you will not be kept on. Thats why its so important to stick together and ensure the 370 cap on overseas crew stays as is.

Enjoy the flying.

ladyluck 8th Aug 2004 03:16

No One has really seemed to mention language speaking here. I was e-mailed with an invitation to attend an interview and I also recieved a phonecall but unfortunately they said they were looking for japanese speakers. Are you people all language speakers who attended the interview???
