Thanks beana.
I currently work in a nightclub, so if i can keep a smile on my face there, then I suppose I can manage to do so on an aircraft lol.
I have over 4 years customer service experience through part time jobs, im a bit of a crazy and happy person, and always got a posative attitude, so I suppose I will go for it!

I like the phone conversation you have to get the application forms.
The way they say "thank you, you have passed our screening process" makes it sound a privilige to actually get the form. lol

Yeh me too! Its good that the application form is nice and simple though, not pages and pages of unnecessary rubbish.

Hi Guys,:)
Have read through most of the Virgin Atlantic thread but is dated back as far as 2004 .
I'm getting conflicting advice from people with regards to a Maths and English test.

In 2004 there is one, and then someone has recently said that they no longer have them but last week I hear that a friend of mine had to sit a Maths test.:bored:

Has anyone recently been, and if so could you let me know if you had to sit a Maths and English test?

I think maths tests are a waste of time. Perhaps rule-of-thumb tests might be more appropriate.

I am not joking.

Rule of thumb tests assess a crew member's spacial perception of the dynamics of the environment in which they are operating.

An example is say a 260Kt descent in an A320 say. Where is the nominal TOD?

At 30,000 feet cruise altitude, this would be at 90Nm to touchdown.
(30,000/1,000 x 3) = 90 Nm

How long will it take? 90/260 * 60 = 1/3 * 60 = 20 mins

You then make some compensations for wind and other altitudes but basically you are somewhere where you think you are for a straight in approach.

Maybe a bit oversimplified. It's sort of like driving your car. You get a smoother ride if you know the road ahead has a lower speed limit. You will lift your foot off the accelerator earlier and watch your car's speed match the decreased speed limit on the sign. You feel good about that. But what you did was apply a rule of thumb; if my speed is this, I must take my foot off the accelerator here to get to that target. After a couple of times you get a set of rules together for curves, slopes and road conditions and you get it right everytime. That doesn't involve any maths and yet you have mastered the control of the vehicle.

Even so, we do these rule-of-thumb calculations frequently in our heads and check them against instrumentation on good days. We may even go home and play it out on graph paper and Jep charts. When was the last time you flew a truly stabilised approach where you have managed the energy of your big jet yourself and the machine is driving down the glideslope almost hands free? It's a good feeling isn't it?

So if we do that, why are we putting crews through complex maths tests???

Seems a waste of time. :hmm:

Unfortunatly 18 is too young for virgin. their minimum age is 19 and they are strict on this. when phoning for an application form, they ask your age and if its under 19, they will not send you the form.
Just to get an application form you have to pass a screening test, so they must be strict on a few things.

I have read the entire thread and found no similar reference. My 40th birthday is coming soon. I travel quite often to the States with Virgin and have never seen anyone older than 35 the most In contrast I have found more mature flight attendants at British Airways, American and other airlines. Any replies will be highly appreciated! That goes to show you girls we are never too old to dream!!! Love to all.

DECOFLY It has only been in the last couple of years that virgin have taken away thier upper age limit and have seen the light, they need a contrast of cabin crew, not just 20 somethings. There are certainly a few more mature crew on board a lot of flights now, some in their 40's and 50's. If your thinking of applying DECO then go for it!

Whilst it's good to have a mix of ages, some AA and UA crew must be on loan from a museum.

But hey ho.

Hello all....im Squeeky and im new......*waves*:D

Ok where do I start.......
I had my application, sent it off...(FYI: I sent a full length shot of me in dark jeans and a dressy top, smart casual, with my hair up and also a head shot with my hair down, hope that helps people).
I received my postcard back weeks ago and never heard a thing so i called them............
I rang on the 17th and a guy told me my application was pending and to sit out the 28 days waiting period.....:sad:
Well 2 days ago (wed) I was fed up and just wanted to know either way so I called again.....
A nice lady told me my application was now "active" and she would go look for it......*started biting fingernails*:confused:
So she comes back and says "oh you were a No show" !!!!
No show? What? Oh my god!!!!! :eek: :eek:
Apparently.......I was due to have an interview on Monday just gone and I never turned up! Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!! :eek: :eek:
After taking in what she said and explaining that I NEVER received a letter (real panic was setting in by now) she told me she would re-schedule......
YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! :) :D
So im now waiting for ANOTHER letter with a new interview date and im soooo excited..........:ok:

I have read this whole thread and would be grateful to anyone with updated information on the new or current interview process.....maths tests etc.......thankyou.....xxxxxxxxx

Hi Squeeky... good luck for your interview! I had mine a couple of weeks ago and found out last week that I got it! :D

The interview was fine... a group session in the morning which is quite relaxed... they'll ask you really simple qs about yourself... find out what you do at the moment etc. During a group activity, they'll take individuals to one side to ask you why you want to be cabin crew and why you want to work for Virgin. The group stage takes a couple of hours. After that, you take a break and then the interviewers split the group.. a group to have interviews in the afternoon, and a group to go home. :bored:

I didn't have to do a maths test, the test involved reading a page giving a scenario and then answering qs on it... so a memory test more than anything, and nothing tooooo difficult! :ok:

Anyway, keep us posted on how you get on!! Good luck!!!!

2 questions about the application form, and this is kina urgent.
1) is a photo required to be included in the form
2) am i missig part of the form, on this forum i have seen talk of referees on the form and I havent got that section on mine please help :confused: :bored: :confused:

I know of people who have not attached a picture to their application form and still got invited to the assessment day - personaly I didn't risk it and got a friend to take my picture.

As for the references, if you get invited to the assessment day, they will send all the reference request forms with your letter.

:) Hiya......yes a photo is required, a full length one.
also, the reference section you get once the offer you an interview........not with the application form.
