BASSA or CC89?
I am considering joining a CC union. Don't know which one?
Just had a look on CC89 and Bassa websites. CC89 for me would cost £9.20 a month I think. Bassa looks like is only for BA CC. Is it true?
Are there any other reliable CC unions in UK?

Sweety, I have been a member of BASSA within three different airlines and found them really good. CC89 I've never experienced, although heard a few bad reports about them a few years back, but that could've been chinese whispers, or any problems could be sorted now.
Most of all, does your company have union representation within either union? If not, find out what you will be gaining as an individual employee member, it may not be worth it. In my experience the best thing about being in is if the airline recognises the union and you have union negotiated agreements on matter such as hotac, seniority, etc.
Hope this helps (I doubt it!) and good luck with whatever you decide

BASSA will suit you fine if you want to be spoon-fed hysterical propaganda by militant reps. If your idea of industrial strength is to just say 'NO' to the company or refuse to speak to them at all, then be railroaded into the outcome anyway, then BASSA is the union for you! On the other hand, if you prefer to be treated as if you have a brain of your own and are capable of forming your own opinions then try the more level-headed CC89.

On the contrary Captcat, as I am not cabin crew I think I'm perfectly placed to give impartial advice. I work in a highly unionised company with members of both unions, and I also have access to the newsletters and briefs of both unions. There is no doubt in my mind which of the unions is professional and seeks a harmonious working relationship, and which is a confrontational, militant bunch who spend all their time blaimng others for their failings. I also happen to know which of the unions completely stitched up its members at a regional base in cahoots with the management!

Hiya Sweety,
I was in BASSA at Britannia, and they were good. Heard bad reports about cc89. However, If you are in same co as me I think the company are only in discussions with joining cc89. Let me know if you have heard different.
In my experience it is beneficial to be in a union. For example I have heard that crewing can expect us to change our days off for duties if they so wish. Ridiculous Without being in a union they can do what they like.

Hand Solo,
I am really amused by you coming here and disserting about a professional union representing a profession you don't belong to. What would happen if I came to give advice in a pilot's forum about their unions?
You are arrogant just to think you can do it, and the way you do it quoted above. You "have no doubt in your mind"? You understood it all? Well, I think that we can work out our advices about unions alone without the help of I-know-it-all outsider.

I'm with CC89 and have been for over 2 years now. When looking to see which one I wanted to join I found it difficult to differ between them.
Both do the same job for roughly the same money.
The only difference I could see was that BASSA is massively millitant and spent lots of time attacking BA and CC89.
This left me wondering where my subs were going and if reps time was being usefully spent solving problems and working for it's members or following their own agendas.
So...I joined CC89 - never had a problem with them....but then again I've never had any problems. The proof is in the pudding I find. Ask around, talk to people who have call to use the union, how they perfomed, where they happy with the service they provided?
Then make your choice.

Unions
Thank you for all you answers! I think I'm very close to decide which one, but will have to find out which one my airline is going to join. Does it matter a lot if my Co recognises the union I'm in? I don't have any idea just yet, that's why I decided to ask around here.
I have a friend who is with CC89 and they have been helpful when needed, although the problem hasn't been solved just yet (it has taken about 2 years now).
Is there anybody out there with real examples of what a union can do for you? That would be very helpful!

ShadowPurser and BoneyM both ADULT replies and I accept and respect your veiws and your right to be in CC89. I say this as a BASSA member who has attended the last BASSA meetings and very good they where too and I am NOT a militant.
Hand Solo I have read many of your posts and very interesting they are too.
I feel however your comments are very much management based and totally unfounded.
Regardless of the name, I wish we as Cabin Crew could also work as one Union as do BALPA.
I await your reply H.S........I hope it has nothing to do with Cabin
Crew looking after their agreements!!.

Here here NJR! I wish they could work together. I think it is great to have a choice though. Otherwise your stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. I also think a bit of competition keeps the other one on their toes!!
You never know one day they may see the light and realise that team work works, and at the end of the day it's what their members want.
Here's to the future...
