airline interviews the donts
There are alot of questions on what to DO in interviews but there isn't much emphasis on what NOT to do. I think what we should NOT do is just as informative.
From recent experience I must say to anyone going to any interview soon....TURN OFF YOUR MOBILE!!!! A mobile ringing during a group interview tends to cause the applicant/owner of that phone to react by quickly saying "Oh @#$^!" definately a NO NO! LOL
Another is...Please dont overload on the perfume or cologne! In an aircraft cabin the gas masks would have drop so pax can breathe! LOL
Anyone have any other interview DO NOT DO tips??

A recent friend of mine said she thinks she didn't get through a 1 on 1 interview because she had a tuna sandwhich before the interview!!! EEEEEEeeeeeeeeew!

My mate went into an Emirates interview chewing gum by accident, so pushed it up the side of her mouth. Felt like she'd done really well til she got up to leave and say goodbye, as the gum fell out onto the interviewers hand. She didn't get the job.

A friend of mine just went to a recent interview and met an applicant who went to the interview wearing Jeans and a t shirt....guys and girls...this is a definate NO NO.

I went to an interview recently where one of the applicants turned up in jeans and a t-shirt. There are alot of people out there who would have killed for an interview and someone like this gets the opportunity.
It does not matter how rich or poor you are you can always borrow a suite from a friend or buy one at an op shop or purchase one and take it back the next day. You really need to give yourself the best opportunity you can.
I also did a one day course with one of the applications who has all the makings of a great flight attendant but chose to ignore the specific details of what we were told to wear on the day and chose a more relax look which would have been ideal for Vigin but not this.
Find out what is appropriate for that Airline and work it. Little details like french polish on nails, great make-up, french roll or bun for your hair and even the way you sit and smile makes the difference.
My advice for the up coming interviews with Emirates is do a one day Flight Attendant's course and plaster that smile on your face.

You're totally correct Amy. Even if it's not an airline interview you should always dress professionally. I view it as a sign of respect towards the company I'm applying to.
I went to a Virgin Blue interview last year and was dressed professionally in a suit and like most gals out there trying to look my best and not get a ladder in my stocking.
What was a surprise was that some women in the group interview were wearing denim jeans and a girl in my activity group had a denim jacket on. I never heard back from Virgin and maybe they did, but I was surprised by how casual some people were dressed for an interview.
Who knows... maybe that more relaxed approach was the key for them and they're up there now flying around.

You shld come down to s'pore and see how the girls dress up for the SQ interview. Pretty interesting, they dress up as though they are going to a pub. They don't really care how you dress up and it doesn't matter if you have no customer service experience. As long as you have hmm, what they want, you are in!

If it's a group interview you are attending and are sitting around the table with others, be diplomatic. Don't be the "know it all" and take up all the conversation, but on the other hand don't sit there and allow all the others to get away with the self promotion. If you are given a group task to complete or discuss, think it over carefully and include the others in your discussion (shows good teamwork).
I have been to many interviews where some idiot on the table thinks they know all the answers to all the questions and has to be the first one to get their point accross because they think they are right and no one else gets a word in. They may know all the answers but thats not the point of a group interview. It's to see how well you can achieve an outcome, right or wrong. The interviewers know that most people new to the industry wont know the correct solutions, they just want to see how well you perform in a group.
Also when in the waiting room, do chat to the other candidates but don't start bitching about other airline interviews, or anything for that matter. My first interview was like this and it turned out the lady doing the registrations had as much input about you as the interviewers. I didn't know it at the time but she was watching how we integrated with the others waiting, and after I got the job I asked her about her role. She WAS there to watch you and listen to you. Remember, as soon as you walk into the place your every move and conversation is tracked.

I know how rediculous it sounds that some people go into group interviews and take over the whole thing, thinking they know the answer to everything. And i know it sounds as if those annoying people would be looked badly upon by the interviewers but i have never been to an interview where those people didnt get thru! It happened in a Qantas one, Qatar and especially Emirates with me.
To me it seems like a 'look at me' thing and the interviewers have loved their loud mouths. To everyone else in the group it was extremely rude. But from my experiences it appears 'do anything to get noticed' and you're in.

Mmmmm.....
Well, at my Emirates interview, the loud mouths certainly didn't make an impression as they didn't get passed the first round.
One more thing, please be very careful what you say to any of the other applicants as airlines have been known to put "spies in the camp". The walls have ears !!!

.....I was going for a interview not that long ago and they had a group interview.....anyways...Never ever tell someone else that their idea is stupid or even have an argument to try and prove you are the best person for arguing. If you have 3 minutes to answer the questions you would have just wasted 3 minutes just preping the argument and it just doens't look good in any interview NO MATTER how stupid or ridiculous ones suggestions may seem.

At my interview for EK, we were to register with the hotel reception as we arrived. I sat and had a coffee and read the paper and waited for what seemed like eternity. I then asked the reception what was going on and they were "oh we called the interviewees already"... I then told the guy to call upstairs and explain that I had been there early and had sat for an hour...etc etc
When I arrived upstairs I made my apologies and joined the group waiting. One guy was spouting off about Concorde, one girl about Saudia (she was in jeans), one about restaurants and how she'd done this and that.
When I was taken in for a 2 on 1 they asked me a final question: "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" I jokingly said..."well i could have still been downstairs if I hadn't realised something was wrong!" They laughed and didn't give me a chance to give a sensible answer.
2 of us got the job out of 12...we both had about 3 years experience, had already been a supervisor, but more importantly...kept our mouth shut and did not brag about our past experience!!!

WHITE STILLETTO BOOTS !!!
I went for an interview with a low cost carrier recently and to my horror was confronted by a girl with white stilletto boots, black tights, and chewing gum like she was keeping the national grid going!!!! She then had the Gaul!! to say " i don't really care if i don't get this job as i've got an interview with Virgin next week."
needless to say she didn't pass the first stage.

Every little bit helps
In the group chat try also to bring people who are not speaking into the conversation. e.g. 'What do you think about subject X'. I am sure you know the tips but retain eye contact at all times and nod to encourage others. Taking notes might help especially if it is provided as often paper/pen and is provided. Do not speak with your hands across your face.
For your one to one when you get to that stage swot up on history / direction of the company, product etc. We all know these are obvious but great people still turn up and display zero knowledge about the company they allegedly want to join.

dont party the night before!
I remember i was doing some promotional work in Hong Kong and I was invited to a work function the night before a group interview/presentation. I looked terrible the next day...lack of sleep...and the drinks took their toll. Anyway....even if everyone else might be drinking and drinks are free....dont drink anything but water! Maybe one drink might be ok but stick to juices etc...Mocktails are fantastic you can still blend in feeling comfortable and you are less likely to embarrass yourself!
SO moral to the story...DONT go on a big night out before an interview!
