Flybe's Belfast Cabin Crew - True Professionals

We've just completed another return trip to visit my family in England and as usual travelled with Flybe from Belfast City. Many people complain about this airline, but I can honestly say their Belfast based cabin crew are the nicest and most professional bunch of people you could hope to meet. Their welcome when you board the aircraft is warm, they take time to talk to people, they are consistently pleasant and informative, and always look after passengers with any special needs. We travelled on the 7.10am flight to Manchester on Christmas Eve. It was pouring down, pitch black and the Dash aircraft was parked half way to the City Hall, so we had to travel by bus to the Victoria Park end of the runway to get on board. It didn't seem so bad when we were welcomed with a genuinely warm smile and friendly greeting. We came back on the 12.25pm flight from Manchester on December 27 and once again the welcome was warm and friendly. We travel with Flybe as many as 10 times per year, and our experience of the cabin crew is consistently good. They never fail to give my wife who doesn't react well to turbulence, a reassuring smile during those very bumpy approaches to Belfast City, Leeds and Manchester in high winds. As a passenger I would like to thank them for the quality of service they provide, and take this opportunity to wish them a happy and safe new year.

Agreed. I worked for FlyBE at BHD for a short time and I thought the crew were pretty much excellent in all respects. Pleasant to work with but firm with unruly passengers when they needed to be.

May I suggest you write to Flybe and ask them to pass on your thanks to the crew. Many Flybe crew are on temp contracts and it will do them no harm to receive a compliment from a satisfied customer.

I will write to them. These people are a credit to their employer.

I have flown quite a lot with Flybe over the last few years, including in and out of Belfast, and with one notable exception, which was the crew on a flight to Perpignan, the crews have been excellent. Unfortunately there is much room for improvement elsewhere.

It is also worth adding that people from NI are generally warmer and friendlier than others parts of the UK.

The land that has just emerged from a century of troubles? This statement is the epitomy of a sweeping generalisation! Must invite the Rev I P round for dinner!

Like many other countries that have had troubles, that probably explains the warmth of the welcome they extend to people from outside.

Bit cynical, aren't we, Ottergirl ?

I worked for an airline operating from BFS, from 1975 until 1999. Before 1981 when we first employed local Cabin Staff, we were always treated with the utmost care and courtesy wherever we stayed. After 1981, the Cabin Crew we had were the most professional and delightful one could wish to work with. They were a really intelligent bunch whose only intent at that time was to make that branch of the airline the best. Yes, the majority of folks from NI were magic and the craic was unbelievable !
I made a lot of friends there, even outside the airline..... and, no, I didn't marry one !

Surely whether or not we can agree that FA's from on part of the world are "better" or not is a subjective discussion? The assertion can neither be proved nor disproved.

Could we not, (for once) just stroll in the sunlit uplands of happiness that are enjoyed when a customer is happy with an airline?

FrequentFlyer,

I'm sure the crew members concerned will be delighted to receive such heartfelt thanks. It goes a long way to making up for a lot of the nonsense that goes with the job.

Thanks to you too. Hope to see you & your family again next year.

Not really Sleeve Wing but it just seemed a strange stereotyping. Geordies, by and large, seem to be friendly folk so do the natives of Glasgow. I've met fine people in Cardiff and charming ones in Dublin. How anyone can assert that a particular city generates more friendly people is beyond me. Humankind is made up of all sorts of folk, some friendly, some less so but they all have one thing in common - the ability to change from one day to the next depending on the circumstances they find themselves in.
Likewise with crew. You could have a fabulous flight with a crew from LHR to LAX then fly back the next day and find they were not quite so fun-loving due to working through the night. We are all things to all people. A cabin crew member whose boyfriend has just walked out is going to be less jolly than when she has just met a new fella! Thats the reality of life. As soon as I decide that the customers on a particular route are the greatest, then the very next flight there I will have a most challenging individual on just to disillusion me!
A Happy and varied New Year to you all whichever lovely people you find yourselves amongst!

Rather than crediting the city, why not credit the employees and their managers, who probably make a concerted effort to emphasize the importance of the extra human touch these crew members exert day by day. To do otherwise risks implying that good customer service can't be developed anywhere, which is patently false.

Stereotyping is based on perceptions and thus on reality. I've met some wonderful people and some equally vile people all over the world. I've met generous Scots, and my Dutch friends are the most generous people I know, I've met Germans with a sense of humour and I've met dishonest Swiss, and Aussies with no sense of humour at all. There are always those who belie the stereotype.

I have met a lot of people from Northern Ireland both globally and in their own territory and they seem to have a far larger proportion of big-hearted outgoing folk there than in many other places.

Slightly off topic, but the worst CC i had the "pleasure" of meeting was a Qantas crew Frankfurt - Singapore some years ago. Rude, obnoxious, gave the impression they were doing the passengers a favour by allowing them on `their`a/c. After a three day stop in SIN got on board a/c for the next leg to Sydney, only to find same CC had also had a layover......
Return flights Auckland-Sydney-Bangkok-Frankfurt seven weeks later were slightly better, but vowed never to fly Qantas again. Rather unfair on the more pleasant personnel, but first impressions mean a lot. Long gone are the days of flying around the world at HMTQ`s expense...........

I've become a pretty regular (mostly for business) pax on domestic and european routes in the last couple of years and have to say Flybe are always a pleasure. Really pleasant cabin crew, informative guys (and girls) on the flight deck and I love the Embraer 195 (and even the Dash!)... When I get my itinerary and Flybe is on there it always brings a smile, seriously!

Thanks guys.

About 18 months ago I flew with Flybe from Exeter to Aberdeen via Leeds. I knew it was going to be a bit iffy going into Aberdeen as I had checked the TAFS before I left home. We circled for a while over Perth waiting for an improvement but to no avail. The alternate of Inverness then unexpectedly also went out in fog, followed shortly by Edinburgh so we ended up in Glasgow. Flybe were quite amazing - 15 minutes after we collected our baggage we were on a coach for Aberdeen.

I emailed Flybe complimenting them on the flight deck and cabin crew as well as their ground services at Glasgow who got us on our way so speedily. Sadly I never got an acknowledgment - thought they could at least have said thanks and we'll let the crew know.

It's easy to complain but it's good to catch people doing things right and really trying with their passenger service. Have never had a bad flight with Flybe.
