Why do ppl winge about their employers ????

The only reason they work for ( enter company name) is because they wanted to, and applied for the job.

If they have changed their mind and don't like the current terms and conditions to move on. (beware the grass is not always greener)

If they are cabin crew but don't like working with ppl may be they have chosen the wrong career.

Things are not always that easy..

People need money.
People take what they can get.

Pilots and crew take whatever they can get (especially when starting out) when they find something better they apply, and move on if they can.

Whinging (also known as "Venting" to an extent) probably helps out a little bit, so they know they are not alone in "this".....

"People need money."

They want the money, they want to work in the industry.
Then stop moaning about it.

"People take what they can get."

If it wasn't for their employer they wouldn't be getting it at all.

If there is a problem with facilities, or T & C's etc. go speak to someone who can change it. Moaning on the internet or to someone in the pub will not make it better, it just re-enforces a (possibly) mis-guided opinion.

Of course this is not the case if you work for the BBC.

I can not help but marvel at the sheer stupidity of the Virgin crew members involved in this rather sorry saga. What on earth were they thinking? As none of their posts were anonymous and both the individuals and the airline were very identifiable can they really be surprised at the inevitable outcome? Virgin I assume have acted quickly before a Ross/Bland type media conflagration gets splashed all over the newspapers.
Its only a few months ago that a large number of Metropolitan Police officers were also disciplined for very similar antics laughing at the public and posting pictures of themselves at road accidents and crime scenes. Many of the pictures ended up in the newspapers to the great embarrassment of the now out going Commissioner who wanted to sack them all on the spot. God save these people from their own stupidity.

Many people seem very naiive as to the amount of information they reveal about themselves on social websites.

I don't belong to one as I don't want to be scammed and on the same privacy theme I keep a shredder in the kitchen to get rid of old bank/credit card statements etc. (Having seen a TV prog recently where the team used statements found in the bin outside to gain access to a house by conning a locksmith that they actually lived there)

Karl: by your use of the term 'ppl' do you mean "Private Pilots Licence" or were you reverting to text-speak

I don't work for VS but have flown them ex-LGW. They kind of have a point - the aircraft they use are hardly state-of-the-art and most pax were indeed chavs

Blimey if you don't consider 6-7 year old a/c state of the art, what is ?. Those a/c are some of the newest passenger 747's flying in the world today.

If you are reffering to the IFE, let me point out that Lufthansa who are a national carrier and much much much bigger than VS still don't offer ANY PTV's in their economy cabins on most of their long haul a/c and still show movies on screens hanging from the roof so you only have 2 option's - watch what they show, or don't - thats it - no changing channels - nothing.

KLM also do not offer PTV's on many of their l/haul a/c either, again showing main screen movies on TV's in the ceiling and thay are reportedly the oldest airline in the world.

What VS do offer on their LGW based a/c is light years ahead of them.

Oh my God! White working class people having saved damned hard to take their horrid chav kids to Florida! How traumatic for all concerned.
I concur btw, the LGW fleet is one of the youngest passenger 747 fleets and many have had a recent paint job into the new colours.

Freedom of speach

What is going on both in this country and in our business, today we commemorate those who fell by the million to protect our freedoms, freedom of thought, freedom of movement and freedom of expression, a group of people have a conversation about their job, in their private time and their company sacks them for holding an opinion and expressing it, what an absolute disgrace and an insult to those who perished protecting us from those who would deny us these freedoms, shame on those people who did this, it had nothing to do with them, if a company cannot tolerate this then it is they who need to get a thicker skin, company image is not everything, what about company ethics and morality, will they be sending people to concentration camps next for looking the wrong way, or daring to speak out against injustices, shame on them. I agree that the people concerned were possibly nieve in writing these things on Facebook were anyone can read it, but surely that is the whole point, they should not have to worry about who reads their opinions, agree or disagree they have a human right to express themselves nieve or not, what sort of company goes around snooping on their own staff, if they have internal channels available no wonder they were not used, as clearly desent is not tolerated. These people should be reinstated with an apology. That is exactly what our grandparents fought and died for, to save us from little Hitlers.

A fantastic quotation.
' It doesnt matter the colour of the car but what goes on beneath the bonnet'
clearly to these people the image is far more important than the sustance,'

I for one will never fly Virgin again on principal.

Oh, Do grow up!!

It's called "Bringing the company into disrepute" and it would be a sackable offence at any organisation.

I personally find it rather offensive that you liken the fate of a few disgruntled cabin crew who should have known better to some of the darkest days in Human history.

"Sense of perspective for table two please!"

Oh Do Grow Up

Ten West, There, your at it again, accept that people have points of view and have the right to air them, why are you offended that I state my point of view, it is you who needs to grow up my friend and get a thicker skin, 'Bringing a company into disrepute,' ha, dont make me laugh, all these companies are more than capable of bringing themselves into disrepute, they do it on a daily basis, they dont need 13 off duty cabin crew with a computer to do that for them.

I'm not going to take umbrage at suggestions that I be the one to "Grow up". You're entitled to your opinion as you quite correctly state.

I would however suggest that what our Grandparents fought for was the very survival of our national way of life, and to do so they were fighting a system where millions of civilians had already been murdered.
It's a little bit of a different league to a moan about work, wouldn't you say?
I think if you're going to draw historical comparisons then someone like the Tolpuddle Martyrs may be a more apt comparison. (Google it if your grasp of History is as tenuous as your grasp on reality).

These people were employed by an airline.
They were employed in the role of customer services (basically)
They were employed in a safety-driven industry.

So, what do they do?

They slag off their customers as "Chavs"
They slag off the safety of the aircraft and the airline with nothing more substantial than anecdotal "evidence", hearsay and gossip.
They do it all on a public forum.

Are you honestly surprised when their employer wants rid of them?

They deserved what they got. Whether the airline is capable of bringing itself into disrepute is neither here nor there. If you bite the hand that feeds you that's what you'll get.

Rant over. As you were.

Having a rant

Ah how well you have done Ten West, having a little rant were you? Felt you needed to let off a bit of steam, because I got on your nerves! well thats exactly what everyone does when someone or something gets on their nerves.
Now I dont hold it against you that you felt the need to have a rant on a public forum, that is what it is for, now isnt that what this crew did? a perfectly natural thing for people to do when they get annoyed. Thank you very much
I know exactly who the tolpuddle martyrs were, I have a wonderful knowlage of history thanks.
Now 'bringing an airline into disrepute,' that would be a very difficult one to bring before a court wouldnt it dont you think? Difficult to get a conviction! hmm I wonder why the airline doesnt try to sue these staff? Probably because a court would reach the conclusion that they were exercising their freedom of speach in their own time, which dear friend we are allowed to do in our land of the free!!! A right for which millions have laid down their lives and I for one believe it is to be encouraged, not strangled, by big corporate entities, because it doesnt serve what they want.
They would want us all to keep our mouths shut, say nothing, not express our opinions and go meekly into the night. I for one shall never go down that road and neither should anyone else. We have a duty to preserve the rights of the individual! Our forefathers fought for it and so should we. So what does the image of a massive corportaion matter as compared to the rights of individuals? nothing, a big corporation can take care of it'self, an individual worker has very little to protect them!
We all have the right to be nieve sometimes, it doesnt make us bad people, and nievity is not a crime as far as I am aware. In fact it leads to honesty in many ways, something which is severly lacking in the British managerial dynamic at this time, when many a boss wears underhand and decietful behaviour as a badge of honour.
Freedom of speach is the enemy of such people, no wonder!! it often exposes them for what they are, 'And they dont like it up em do they Mister Mannering?'
