We peruse the Internet for this stuff so you don't have to!
Could the phrase "When you pay peanuts for wages, you get monkeys for workers" apply here?

Employee Showed Naked Pictures Of Himself, Made Lewd Comments, Grabbed Victim's Buttocks - Employee Has Since Admitted Guilt To Some Of The Charges
Reporting: Kristine Johnson
NEW YORK (CBS) ― In an exclusive interview with CBS 2 HD, a New Jersey woman described her terrifying encounter in the sky. She said it happened on a JetBlue flight, and what was supposed to be a trip home from a fun visit with family instead turned into an ordeal.
She said it all started shortly after she boarded the plane. She said she has yet to recover.
Gina Rousett is still traumatized eight months after she says a JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to Newark turned into a nightmare.
It started with what she thought was a friendly conversation with a flight attendant, but looking back now, she says she should have been wary.
"He literally told me he was going to have nobody sit next to me because I was all his," Rousett said. "I was definitely trapped."
And after takeoff it got much worse. Rousett said Dayne Arokium's behavior was lewd and outrageous.
"He kept telling me that he wanted me," Rousset said. "At one point he said, 'You know you want me,' and [he was] always grabbing himself, all the time."
And she said twice he tossed his cell phone, showing naked pictures of himself, onto her tray table.
"I told him, 'You're disgusting. You know I'm married and I don't want any part of you,' but he kept going and going and going," Rousset said.
Frantic, she escaped to the bathroom. Rousett said he followed, making vulgar comments through the door. On her way back to her seat, she said Arokium grabbed her buttocks.
But incredibly, she did nothing and told no one.
"I was scared. I was really, really scared," Rousett said. "Why I didn't get up and say something to somebody I don't know."
Seven months later, flight attendant Arokium was arrested on charges of "obscene and indecent exposure" and for making a "lewd, obscene and indecent sexual proposal."
According to charging documents, Arokium "admitted to showing the full body naked picture on his cell phone" and "to making sexual advances." But he denied "grabbing" Rousett or "acting in a harassing manner."
In a statement to CBS 2 HD, JetBlue said Arokium no longer works for the airline and that "JetBlue has and will continue to cooperate in the investigation."
Rousett said she wishes she had spoken up on the plane and hopes by coming forward now other women will learn from her.
"I don't think I will ever get over it," she said. "I think it will always be there in my mind."
When reached at home, Arokium said that on the advice of his attorney, he had no comment. His attorney did not return our call for comment.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Arokium has not yet entered a plea in the case against him.

"When you pay peanuts for wages, you get monkeys for workers"
1)not all JetBlue FA sexually harass passengers, and they should not be called ''monkeys'' and tarred with the same brush because one of them did
2) a low salary doesn't turn you instantly into a ''monkey'' (and besides, my information say JetBlue FA salaries are not that bad).

I forget where I first heard that phrase, but it appeared to hit the nail on the head in certain applications I was exposed to. It's similar to the "You get what you pay for" adage.
Remember, too, that I was merely posing a question. I asked whether that phrase could apply here. In the opinion of some, obviously not.

Or, maybe we don't do it ourselves because we don't want to...
As information, the report made itself known to me as a news item courtesy of my ISP.
My first thought was, "Hmmmm... I'll bet my friends at PPRuNe would be interested in seeing this."
Hopefully, one or two of you found it somewhat interesting.

Going to be flamed for this..............He kept telling me that he wanted me," Rousset said. "At one point he said, 'You know you want me,' and [he was] always grabbing himself, all the time."
I sprout similar lines every Saturday night in the disco when throwing off my white jacket to the beat of 'Saturday Night Fever/ Staying Alive' (agreed not in a a/c) It's called 'chatting up' . But their again, I'm a chav.
Although when dancing, I seem to be having trouble when asking the lady for the 'last dance' she usually replies "your having it"

ONTpax, you must be a monkey then!!
In all seriousness, though, would there be anyone here in agreement with me that, as the job of a flight attendant has "morphed" over the decades, and as wages have somewhat stagnated, isn't there a different candidate at the HR department that looks at the job a little differently?
For example, back in the 1950s and 60s, people would hire on at such "legacy" carriers as BOAC and Pan Am with an eye toward making it a lifelong career. Today, we have discount carriers like RyanAir, JetBlue and SkyBus (defunct here in the U.S.) where, don't you feel, some people hire on as a FA with the feeling that it will make a good "transitional" job until something better comes along that pays more?
Maybe the misguided dude who was sexually harassing the passenger had the attitude of "So what if I get fired for this. I'm not too impressed with this job and the corresponding pay anyway."
Hopefully, no offense taken by any readers. Just a few thoughts advanced for further discussion.

something fishy
Would love to hear the former F/A's side of the story. Hopefully that will receive the same media coverage as this lady's.
Someone grabs your b*tt, uninvited and you dont let that person know in no uncertain manner that it was not appreciated? Seems to be more to it.

He supposedly admitted to showing her nude pictures of himself on his cell phone. That's probably the most damaging behavior and is probably what lead to his dismissal by the airline.
How do you defend your way out of that one, especially if you've admitted to doing it?
The airline might have forgiven him for the other stuff, especially since it was a "he said, she said" kind of thing and there probably were no witnesses.
And, what does it say about the guy in that he had nude pictures of himself on his cell phone? Maybe it's a generational thing. I wouldn't have nude pictures of myself on my cellphone. But, this younger generation seems to use their cellphones for lots of imaginative applications. I've read accounts of high school girls taking explicit nude pictures of themselves on their cellphones, sending them to their boyfriends, and the boyfriends later sending those pictures to everyone and their brother on the Internet, after the couple has broken up.
And then there's those "Girls Gone Wild" videos . . .
Sounds like he may have lacked a little bit of common sense.
Getting back to my original premise, could it be possible that the "pool" of quality people that airline HR departments have historically selected from is suffering just a bit in recent years because the wages for the position have, in some cases, stagnated?
The "You get what you pay for" syndrome.
And flyblue, did you notice I didn't use that other adage?

Don't suppose you've got any links to websites to corroborate your above statement

I learned of this situation through an article in a newspaper discussing teenage kids, cellphones, texting, social websites such as Facebook and the like. Apparently kids communicate more through their computers and cellphones these days, and the "art" of talking, having an old fashioned phone call or engaging in face-to-face communication may be falling by the wayside. A sad state of affairs in my opinion.
But, if I do happen to run across such sites, I'll let you know!
