Virgin 55 to Washington

Hi all.

I have read the forum rules, and really don't want a smack on the wrist - but I think this is the most appropriate place for my question.

I'm off to Washington to meet up with my other half who is flying in from Buenos Aires, before we come back here, and finally I get to go on my favourite aircraft - VA A340-600. Absolutely delighted about that...

My girl adores red roses. I was wondering if I could somehow bring a few (or one?) onto the plane to be kept cold? Or, if a terribly kind soul on here might be able to get one or 2 for me and accept a payback onboard? It's our first time in the USA, and has been planned to be a perfect 2 weeks. It would set things off so greatly if I could, after the endless kiss, give her her favourite roses which she would not expect at ALL.

Further to this - any chance of a quick flight deck visit? I simply can't wait to get on this plane - it's like a dream come true - as corny as it sounds. I have a pilot's license myself. I'm also a card magician (magic circle) and if allowed, could entertain a few of you???

Thanks anybody.

Trusting it's the right place,

Daniel.

I am not sure that US Customs will allow you to take in flowers, but i stand to be corrected. Maybe to save yourself disappointment, do some research on the US customs and border protection website.

Flight deck visits will not be allowed while the aircraft is in the air. But if you ask nicely perhaps a visit might be arranged after it has arrived on stand.

I meant at any moment.

And the comment about 9/11 will only get this thread removed - so I'll ignore that, apart from saying not everyone is still paranoid from 9/11 and I know many people, especially who have flown with Lufthansa, who have had FD visits.

Anyway, not looking for sarcasm, just simple answers, to which you gave one, and for which I thank you. I think I'll confirm with US Boarder Control, though, just to be sure.

Glamourgirl! - go easy on the guy regarding flight deck visits, we all know the restrictions post 9/11 but there's no reason why he can't pop his head in on the ground before/after the flight??

Sorry, there is nowhere cold you'll be able to store your flowers onboard, and I'm pretty sure you can't take them into the US with you anyway.

Whatever your friends have been up to with Lufthansa, Virgin are super strict about about flight deck visits in flight and it's up to the Captain on the day if they'll let you in before departure / after landing. Depends on how busy they are.

Daniel,

IAD does have a flower shop in the arrivals hall, after you clear customs. Unfortunately, it closes at 9pm; in any case, given the usual arrival schedules of London and Buenos Aires (or Miami) flights to Washington, I’m guessing that she will arrive at the airport before you and be there to greet you as you leave customs.

Maybe you can arrange through Teleflora or the hotel concierge to have a bouquet of roses waiting in the hotel room? Other than presenting her with chocolate roses or jewelry at the airport, I can’t think of anything else that might be a rose substitute for the greeting – perhaps others reading can give you some creative ideas.

Cheers,
LR
