I can assure you that we can most certainly hear mobile phones connecting to the network over the aircraft radio so if a capt asks you to switch them off - just do it!

I realise that, but for crew to pa the pax stating the Captain will know the seat row of the perpetrator is a bit silly.

I've heard that line twice, both on BmiBaby.....maybe it's a "trick" mentioned during training.

I think that BMI Baby selling point is that it's a "Fun Airline"
and that's what the passenger's expect.

But I have no doubt there crew are trained to the highest standards etc..
It's just us Brit's trying to be like our American Friend's, for example
Southwest Airlines.

When flying in from the rigs, if I heard the pax undoing their seat belts while shutting down the a/c, I would re-engage the throttles and bring the blades back up to speed and tell the pax that I had not turned out the seat belt light. It did not take long before word went round and they did what was expected of them.

I'm not even an FA, but I saw this commercial a few years ago and was laughing out loud. It's the Nicoderm ad, you've probably seen it, but always worth a watch

"The seatbelt sign is ON!, God!" haha

I just returned on a flight across the big pond with Delta. We had occassional areas of bumpiness and the captain put on the sign and made the usual announcement. People continued to walk around, crew ignored them! One gal's seat belt hung in the isle and more then one crew member walked past and didn't notice or say anything.

How can anyone expect pax to follow instructions if those instructions are not enforced!

I would suggest that the airlines subtly, but absolutely clearly make it clear to their customers that 1) Whilst onboard an aircraft, it's the captain and his/her crew that rules and you hafta do as they say 2) Failure to follow reasonable and sensible instructions from any member of crew is a criminal offence.

Basically educate people on the appliccable laws. When you board an aircraft, you're in a special situation, and you should better behave.

Could be printed on the safety cards, so everyone's read it after say 10 trips. Methinks problem today is that people think an aircraft is like any bar in Ibiza, and the crew are the bartenders.
