EY Layovers
I've been looking at the general flight durations for some of EY's destinations..and was hoping to get more information regarding the layovers.
I've noticed many of the destinations seem to be of a medium length (6-8 hours) like Munich, Kuala Lumpur, Dublin, Beijing, Singapore, Brussels, London, Paris, Frankfurt etc. What I'd like to know is if these destinations have layovers at all, and if so, for how long usually (12 hours or so?)
What about the ultra long haul, such as Sydney, Toronto, New York?
Is there a general guideline, like any flight 6 hours or less is usually a turnaround?

Layovers
I do not work for EY however most layovers are until the next flight back. On daily destinations the layover will be until the following day. I think EY have some destinations with only 4/5 flights per week so you may get a few days down route.

Ok where do I start -
Our longest turn around flight would be KTM (Kathmandu) approx 4 hrs going and about 5hrs returning. Also KRT (Khartoum) and some of our Indian Destinations.
KUL/BKK/MNL/CGK are approx between 26hrs
KUL also has 48hrs
SIN - Either the 48hrs or 72hrs
BNE - Either the 48hours or 72hrs
SYD/JFK - Approx 31 hrs (as of Oct SYD will also see 48hrs layovers)
YVZ - Either 48hrs or 72hrs
BRU - Either 48hrs or 72hrs
GVA - Min rest / 14 hrs or 72 hrs
FRA - Min rest / 19hrs or 31 hrs
CDG - 24hr or 48 hrs
Etc etc etc....
Ashlea I could go on forever but yeah this would give you a rough idea.
We also have started double sectors on the 320. Eg. AUH - DOH - AUH - AMM (24hours in AMM) then next day AMM - AUH - DOH - AUH
Beirut and Cairo is rumoured to also be included as layovers together with some Indian destinations.

Excuse me...about KTM and other Indian destinations.... to go 4 hours and to go back 5 hours....do you do all in one day??? Or you have a nightstop???
As 9 hours flight+ check-in+briefing+turnarand after the first sector.....I think it is crazy
How many hours duty can you have a day???
How long is the minumum rest???

Um hello, there are airlines where crew have to operate 5-6 hours each way with a turn around! It all depends on the Flight Time Limitations of the country.
Get used to it. I've heard there is an airline at the moment which is asking for special dispensation to operate London - NYC - London!

^^^ Last year I flew SIN - Cochin with Silk Air, about a 4.5hr flight, left Changi about 8pm, with the time diff due in about 10.15. I asked one of the crew how long they stayed over and she said oh no, we go straight back after a one hour turn around. With my rudimentary maths, this makes at least 10 hours, without whatever has to be done before the flight.
I'm not sure this can be right, but seemingly it is. Our particular flight was delayed by more than an hour as well as I recall; it was nearly midnight local time when we landed, so that crew must have done 12+ that 'shift'.

Get used to long days in the airline industry.......Uk crew can do 13 1/4 hours flight duty period depending on time of departure. This can be extended by 2 hours at the discression of the captain!!! Other flight time limitations obviously reply but this is just an example of a duty period. Flight duty period does not include the time before your flight which you will have duties to perform.

I was UK crew with 13-14 duty hours in short haul....so I know!
Just wondering as EY is the flag carrier....but they have the same policy about duty hours like low cost and charter and this is REALLY SAD!!!

Being the flag carrier of a country doesn't mean the crew are going to get treated any different that someone like Emirates or as you say a low cost airline. At the end of the day any airline wants to get the most out of their crew otherwise their operational costs would be too high. Im an ex Cabin manager from Etihad and we used to do a 4 hr flight to columbo with a 24hr layover, those days are well and trully gone im afraid. Dont be to dishartened though as Etihad had some great trips when I was there such as the Abu dhabi-Brussells-Toronto.

I hope to have great time in AUH and flying all over....I hope to have great layovers otherwise I'll change airline and go back to Europe!! It will be just an experience, don't want to stay long in EY.
But low cost....believe me...they are awful for type of passengers, treatment and everything...do you know ryanair???? No food no water for crew, many hours flying, no layovers, low earnings....it's a shame!!!
Just don't want to do again 4-6 sectors with no layover otherwise I'll leave EY after 6 months!!

I wish u all the best with Etihad. I'll just say now though that flying is not just about layovers!!!!! its good with Etihad but i don't think recruitment wud be happy hearing that you'll leave within 6 months if u don't enjoy it!!!! I was also involved with performance on board and to be truthfully honest if thats all your after then i dont think etihad is for you!! Good luck anyway!!

I can't say right now that I'll stay there 2 years (the contract says this) when I haven't tried yet!!
I am prepared to stay there for 6 months (probation required), after that.... I do not know.
Maybe I'll hate it maybe I'll love it, maybe I'll need to go home, change job, marry....don't know!!!!!
I am only ready but I have no idea if I will enjoy it or not

Etihad is growing quickly with many destinations. They are trying to keep up. We are short on aircraft and with the increase in frequencies. Approx 300 extra flight this time last year for the summer schedule.
I really hope you enjoy your time here in EY. By the sounds of things you wouldnt stand a chance after 6 months But you must take into consideration. The UAE has so many expats from the Indian Subcontinent and given the location of the Middle East to the region. We have many local destinations that are turnarounds. India/Pakistan...

Nick thank for you welcome to EY...I am flying tomorrow to AUH and I am happy for my new adventure. I do not know if I'll like it or not, so after probation I'll decide what to do. For me it is something definitely new!

Yes pretty much the same. Who is going to fly the Aircraft back if flightdeck get different layover times to Cabincrew?
Are layover times for pilots the same as for cabin crew?

Nickvan, Ouseburn's question is a sensible one.
In my airline, like in many others, flight and cabin crew often have different layover times. When your airline hits the same destination often enough, there is no need at all for everybody to be there for the same length of time.
Which is a shame because I always feel that it's nicer, safer and easier to stick together for the entire flight rather than a few legs.
