Angry What a load of CRAP !

For those that are interested, there is a very touchy subject to all of us going on in the Dunnunda Forum titled - " cup of tea.....that will be $70,000 thanks "
http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/For...ML/003367.html

Apparently, Flight attendants are overpaid according to these " hard done by " pilots...

Yes I appreciate that a flight attendent has its own demands and difficulties, but surely the flight tech crew have a higher demand, more responsibility to their jobs, hence the bigger pay packet, don't you agree?

It doesn't sound like anyone is saying that tech crew don't have more responsibiliy, but why have a go at us saying we're overpaid? There are plenty of airlines out there that underpay f/a's. There are SOME tech/flight crews out there that think we are there purely to serve them tea/coffee for the entire flight and have absolutely no appreciation of just how physcially hard the job is, and how long WE have to go on for without so much as a cup of tea, let alone something to EAT!

Well, and tech crew wonder why cabin crew don't give them the time of day.... it's because of morons like that !!!!

Oh and 'Windowseat driver', yes I agree techies have more responsibility..... but the jobs are completely different, and the remuneration shouldnt even be compared.... and it's never cabin crew who are doing the whinging about what the pilots earn - always the other way around.

In my airline the cabin crew rarely complain about how much they're paid in relation to flight crew. Must be 'cos the head waiter gets paid 50-100% more than I get for flying the aircraft! Aaah, the power of BASSA.

come on guys - In my company, flight deck will land down route and drive 20 miles because they've heard of a seedy bar that has beer 2 cents cheaaper than the crew hotel - who has the money problem here? I have to admit my other half (flight deck) is embarrassed at the amount of money he earns compared to the amount of work he does compared to myself and my fellow cabin crew. but WE don't moan about it!

Cool

I have to say that we have flight deck in my company who feel that us poor F/As don't get paid enough and tell the company management that too!! (not that they listen) So not all F/D think we are overpaid.

Ouch! Obviously a very touchy subject. I will speak to the captain and ask them to retract his/her comments.
Don't have a go at me, remember it wasn't me that made the original comments.
But I am sure that where the F/As are underpaid, the pilots are probably underpaid too. Its all relative. Anyway, I wasn't complaining about my pay, in fact I'm pretty happy with what I got.

C'mon let's be friends.

well folks - this shows just how far apart most f/a and flight deck are, its a simple fact, each depend on one another.

Did no one teach these men(and ladies) to be kind to the people that see their food before they do?

Jeez traveler, nice pilots have nothing to fear. Actually only heard of that happening once after the fact. But would be a good thread.

Cabin Boy,
I wouldn't get too het up Mate, the topic deviated rather quickly to the heart of the matter. What we earn is irrelevant, we do different jobs with different responsibilities (one of which is to drag unconscious techies from the f/d and push them down the slide in an emergency evacuation) and different methods of remuneration. Big companies pay the big bucks and small companies the not so big ones.
The key to it all of course is to negotiate as a group, preferably by being unionised. (but that is a personal opinion of course )
It is quite obvious to most people that individuals have little power and the thread on the pilots forum - quickly identified the problem, and it isn't that we are overpaid, it is that others are not paid enough.
Just a thought:
Denigrating anyone's job because it's not your 'cup of tea'(pun intended) only creates animosity on the aircraft and that achieves nothing.

Yeh, good point, Tarantella, you see if one occupations wage drops, in the industry, you can bet yours will be next, they won't pay F/As $20,000 P.A., and techies $300,000P.A., everything will be in line, over at Impluse they pay the cabin crew low, but also the Pilots, so we should all be kind to each other, we are all just employees with little say, Pilots, F/As, C.S.Os, Engineers, it doesn't matter, the big companies just want you to work harder and pay you less, no matter what job you do for them!

Hmmm the eternal discussion

In the beginning I was really amazed how many captains were asking a red/white wine or mini out of the business trolley. As if they don't get enough paid. I've seen capt's who take all the crew'fruit home after a flight without asking someone else. The more money you get, the gredier you become??

If I'm on a ferry flight (flight without pax) I just don't do any kind of service... C.A. is cabin attendant not COCKPIT ATTENDANT

I'd like to see a member of the flight deck in the cabin fighting with pax about luggage, or even trying to help the dieing lady. It 's so funny to do recurrent trainings with them and that they don't have a clue about what equipment is in the cabin and surely how it works.

sad sad sad

Last week I had a capt who worked for a major eastern airline who came out of the toilet and asked why the soap was not foaming... I just told him that this was a toilet refreshing tablet (deo) and not soap.

Are they aliens?

p. Arempi.

I am still a youngster in this game and I hope I do not become like the people you have just described. It does seem very sad that people do become greedier and pettier as they get older. The airline I work for doesnt seem to have that problem. All relatively young and tech/cabin crew do respect each other and get along well.
