Working after surgery...can anyone help?
Please could I have some advice, I work as cabin crew and recently had to have my appendix taken out. Have any of you had the same, and if so how long were you off work for before you started flying again? I am seeing a nurse tomorrow who may advise me but was just wondering how long it might take to get back to normal.

I had an operation myself, not the same though, but a friend had her appendix out not long ago.
She was signed off by the doctor for three weeks (quite a long time as she is over a certain age limit).
I was signed off by my doctor for two weeks.
After this period our company won't let us fly until we have been to the company doctor who has to agree that we are fit to fly.
So really you should get an idea by what your doctor tells you and look into your company policies as well.

Hi there hope you are feeling a whole lot better now.....re your question. Your doctor may instruct you to refrain from lifting heavy objects for one to several weeks, depending on the type and complexity of your operation. Best talk it over with your GP/Nurse when you see them.

Thanks for the replies, I've found out my own GP does aviation medicals so that will help although he is never available for appointments when I'm free! Typical. Just good to hear about other people's experiences and what they have done in that situation.
