Hi everyone,

I have spent so much time reading through the posts in this forum and am so grateful for every bit of info. All hopeful ek cabin crew are so fortunate to have so many people out there who have been kind enough to help and share their past experiences.

I have just decided to attend the open day in Brisbane (might see you there mshostess ) and have one basic (probably very silly) question that I would like answered please:

Does everyone wear business attire to the open day?

I'm pretty sure the answer is 'yes' but just want to double check...

Thanks again

Hey

I went to the last Brisbane open day and only decided to apply the day before and i got through. Everybody wears a business suit. I went out and spent about $500 on a suit. When I arrived, I was a little intimidated because everyone looked so perfect, and well groomed.

I would advise to wear a suit with a knee lenght pencil skirt, sink coloured stockings and black polished court shoes. Make - up and pull you hair back into a low bun or french roll, and wear minimal jewellery.

Best of Luck.

MEG4 -Hey there I wanted to send you a reply, but didnt know how too! Anyhoo thats awesome we must be in the same intake! I am flying ex AKL NZ on the 15th! Have you received your ticket yet? Because I havent! I know that we should expect to see something this week, but its a bit nervewrecking knowing that you are flying next week but have no ticket to confirm it! Also EK does not leave us much time to question anything that we may disagree with in our contracts! Mind you I am guessing that it will be pretty standard!
Thank you for getting in touch with me, we will no doubt meet up there for sure!

MSHOSTESS - You are most welcome and good luck! I am sure you will do well

OH MY GOSH I HAVE JSUT REALISED THAT I WILL BE LEAVING IN 10 DAYS - SCARY

Thanks

Thanks so much Emirates girl and flyoneday!

Emirates girl - you have given me some hope, hehe, as I thought that my decision to attend the open day was very last minute. Fortunetly, I already have a suit! Just need to get photos now.

Congrats on your success and all the best!

Hi Fieval,
I was getting a little worried too about having not received my contract/ticket so i email emirates and they said the contract is sent out 10 days before and the ticket-which is an eticket-gets sent 2-3 days efore departure!! Not much of a leeway at all!!
But its good to know that things are on tract...its becoming a reality now thats for sure! Very excited but im leaving my fiance here in Japan so its very sad at the same time!

Hey it is 10days until departure which means we should be getting our contracts today!!

I had a couple of quick questions about applying for and working for Emirates. First, what are the application timelines like? For example, if I wanted to leave for Dubai in January 2008 (provided that I am accepted), when would I need to apply? Also, is a housing allowance provided as an option to CCs or is the only option to live in company housing? Thirdly, are there any assesment days offered in the USA or would I need to travel abroad at my own expense for those? Finally, are there any language skills that are especially valued by Emirates? In addition to English, I can speak Ukrainian, Russian, and French and plan to continue learning Hindi (though I don't know whether I would have a good level of proficiency before applying), since I didn't learn nearly as much of it as I wanted to while living in Delhi.

I have so many other questions, but I will ask those later. I am excited about applying to work at Emirates, even though that time is still a while away, and hope to join those of you already in Dubai.

MEG4 - We must be on the same wave length - great minds think alike I also emailed emirates to find out exactly when I would be getting my tickets, and had the same response 3-4 days! Hell that doesnt give us much leeway at all, but never to worry I am sure we will be fine! Gee it must be so much harder having to leave your partner, I am glad because I am single, but its still hard leaving all my friends & family! Its going to be devastating at the airport next Friday I can just see it! Keep in touch and let me know when you receive your contract tickets! It will be great it we are in the same intake, its always good to have a friend, when you going into the unknown! Have you ever worked as a flight attendant before?

LUCKYEYE13 - Hi there! I will try to help answer your questions, I am currently waiting to fly out next week so hopefully I can be of assistance. In regards to start date, you can not be guaranteed when your start date will be, because alot of when you start depends on how quick you can get all your medicals back when the clear you etc.....it is a very long drawn out process and at times can take months, in my case I had my final interview in August and I am flying next week 4 months latter, but then again ever person is different.
You will have to stay in company accommodation for the first couple of months I think! After that you can apply for accommodation allowance. However I think that if you leave company accommodation and want to come back, it is very hard to get back in....dont quote me on that one!
As for languages - knowing different language is defintely a bonus, but not necessary, so I think what you know already is definitely adequate.

Hope that helps

does anyone know ?

Hi
Emirates have a corporate communications team which is a group of cabin crew that are on a list and whenever there is an event on such as "the melbourne cup" or anything that EK is sponsoring. These CC are flown out to attend these events to promote emirates. Does anybody know how to be on that team ?

16 DAY TO GO !

MEG4 - Still no contract yet! I dont even know what time my flight will get into Dubai, I have tried searching flights on the internet from New Zealand and it keeps coming up with invalid search, so I am a little in the dark at the moment
Like you my last day at work is tomorrow (Friday) its going to be so sad! But we are going to have a big leaving party BBQ and all, should be good!
As for working in the industry - no I never have, I am currently working in a totally different field, so I am a little apprehensive, but it should be good

EMIRATES GIRL - Wow how did you find out this information, that would be awesome to do! However I am sure that it would probably be the oldtimers that would get first dibs on that group!

I alwasy wondered how those girls get there. Like the ones you see on Tv standing behind presenters at the Mebourne cup etc... There was an article in our paper last weekend about an emirates FA who also did that and it sounded awesome. hmm...no doubt we will all soon find out !

Fieval & Meg4 - Have you guys started packing yet ??? I have... I leave the week after you !

Concessions

Just another quick question that I forgot to ask earlier. I was wondering what the concessions on flight fares are like for Emirates CC. Also, are there concessions offered by other airlines? Though it obviously doesn't make much of a difference for me at the moment, it would affect whether or not I would want to fly back every so often to my current employer and retain seasonal status (where I come back and work for a certain very low number of days each year and retain my benefits here) after my contract here ends sometime next year if I get accepted for Emirates CC.
