Hey!
Australian boy! How nice is it!
My application for Virgin Atlantic, Hong Kong based, after final interview, is still processing. Fingers crossed day after day... hopefully if I am offered a chance to fly, may be with you one day, and I will let you see the very local HKG.

See you in HKG........
Well done AB!
I am currently on exchange number 3 over here at VA - having a great time - although, it is all slipping away a little too quickly!
What was the ratio of BNE to MEL crew who were offered the secondment? Is it for 18 months? (That was the last I heard)
Might see you in HKG or during your training over here (or even on a trip!)
Good luck!

Hey just for your info I do a HKG/SYD once a month roughly, The FSM`s will go all the way to SYD, as will the CSS`s, 2 LHR Seniors and 2 LHR Cabin Crew will aswell and the IFBT, the reduction will be in the HKG based crew not the western crew, the reason they have national crew onboard (apart from cost saving) is to be culturally aware of the passengers on board (tho i dunno why the need for SYD based crew is the same as say HKG, LOS, NRT, DEL, BOM etc) Therefor if yo took all the LHR Seniors ad Cabin Crew off you wouldnt have any aisle crew out there representing the British contingent of pax. Afterall it is a British carrier...I am looking forward to having more SYD based crew, love flying with them, got a few good friends outta that base too.

Following on with the comments of Gpik, why does VS even have a SYD base? I mean British crew are quite capable of speaking English and the HK crew would cut the costs of having the British crew travel all that way. The Virgin Flair fits in well with the laid-back Aussie way too... just wondering...

I always wondered why we needed a SYD base, but hey ho it must save the company money......cant think of another reason, although I suppose it covers crew sickness in SYD, if a western crew member goes sick then they can easily cover it by calling out a SYD crew member and in the time it takes for the trip to return from HKG/LHR then another crew member could be passengered out to hkg....who knows

SYD Base Crew
Hey Guys & Gals, especially those who are VS LON or SYD Based Crew.
So do the SYD Based VS crew also do HKG-LHR vv as well as SYD-HKG vv?
I remember another European airline a few years ago who had a SYD Base - who eventually only operated SYD/MEL to their Asian transit hub and back. Dunno if most of the time if the the VS F/A's who are SYD-Based are on standy as Gpik said - to cover crew sickness etc.
Well hopefully in the future - if the Australian Government implements an Open Skies policy - so other airlines can have 5th/6th Freedom Flights - then there may be more of a need for SYD Based Crew - from those other airlines.
It'll be nice to still be living in a wonderful place like Australia and having a dream job at the same time for an international airline - other than one with a Kangaroo on it.
