Guildford to Gatwick
Hi all!
Does anyone out there have experience of commuting from Guildford to LGW by chance?? ... Im sure there must be several good towns to commute from, Brighton and S.London being two which both seem to have great train services running regularly and directly but Guildford is very much on the cards for the relocation due to the availability of a room. Any info on the pro's and con's on this matter would be greatly appreciated from anybody's previous or current experience to date.
I am aware of the train line from Guildford taking approximately 40 - 50mins on average and would be keen to hear about your knowledge of the drive to LGW too.
Any help would be greatly valued at this point! Many thanks in advance

Hi there
Woking (just nth of Guildford) to LGW is 35-40 mins by road (M25/M23), with a couple of back road options taking circa 10 mins longer on the average day.
Roads are no problem 99% of the time.

I drive from just outside Guildford to Gatwick using the A25 through Dorking and Reigate. Journey takes between 40 minutes and an hour depending on traffic. There are plenty of back roads to avoid traffic. Over 5 years, I've never really had too many problems. Listen out to the traffic reports about congestion on the M25 between Leatherhead, Reigate, and Gatwick junctions, as people will come off the M25 and clog up the A25.

You should have no problems although M25 can get busy although I think it's 4 lanes on that section you'd be using, if you are not going across country. Weekends are noticably quieter.
By the way what is it about the M23 that encourages people to stay in the middle lane all the way from start to finish? It seems worse than any other motorway I've ever driven on. Shift workers heading for Gatwick half asleep?

From Guildford by train take First Great Western Link train straight to Gatwick Airport. They do run about every hour though.
To drive it doesn't take long. Guildford is very local, I know a number of crew who live there and work out of LGW.
